I think i need to remove my sunroof glass on my 94. Right now i have all that interior except head liner out so it is a good time to let the floors get wet. I was getting a lot of wet carpet on both the DS and PS. I cleand the drains and bulled the drain tubing ends free from the kick panel area to help cleaning. I inserted the end of each black drain tube into a water bottel to see how much water was making through the drains when i flushed it. They are working well right now. But today it started to rain and i checked my catch bottles. I had about a liter of water in the DS bottle. It actually over flowed allover the floor (no carpet s just popped the drain plug). But it made me think that i was getting a lot of water down the sunroof drains. I have been reading about trying to fix the sunroof seal and mot involve removing the sunroof glass. But i have also seen that the headlines in the 94s can be tricky to remove. Has anyone removed the sunroof glass in their 94? Does the headliner need to come out or just "tilted down" to access bolts? Is it a problem on the 94? Also on a side not i saw a thread about extending the drains down out of the rocker panels. I really like this idea. Can anyone think of a reason that it is a bad idea or any problems it could cause?

I would recommend headliner removal. It is as easy as an oil change on a difficulty scale and is a one man job. Once removed you have access to all four drain tubes and can inspect the drain pan for cracks. It's also advisable to clear the tubes by flushing in the direction of flow otherwise all the gunk just sits in the sunroof drain tray until the next rain comes and clogs the tubes again. It's a good opportunity to shampoo the headliner once it's out too. It's not a good time shampooing with it installed. Ask me how I know

I would love to just remove the glass from the top. What i want to do is work on the seal. But from what i see it looks like it comes out the bottom. Any input would be great.

On my 92 the glass unbolts from the inside and then comes right off from outside. You have might have to remove the plastic trim piece if you cant get to the bolts from the inside. I think there is four. It has been a year or so since I removed mine. It was really easy. I was then able to clean the seal. My motor was trashed so the window did not work. I put a little black silicone around the edge when I put it back on and it has never leaked. I pushed the track into the far highest position so the window now has no gap and water cant get into the area and I don't have to worry about the drains at all. With the window glass out you can see the where it rides in the track. I had to disconnect the alarm that tells you that your sun roof is open when you turn the vehicle off. It was no big deal and is located in the light switch. Just play around with it. If I can figure it out anyone can.:bang:

Maybe on the 95+ years. 94 and under is a nightmare.

'97 headliner is easy....sunroof not so much and you'll have to replace the glass to increase weather ability, anyway.

All explains why I have the glass new.... In a box in the garage.

It sounds like i can remove the interior trim and then access the sunroof bolts from the inside. Remove 4 bolts and pop out the glass. Then i can try to fix the seal. But everyoine says the trim parts are very delicate and break very easily. Can someone tell me what way to pull them off with out breaking them? Do they get pulled down to the floor direction or back or how? Is there clips like the body panels?

The molding is very likely to break no matter how you approach it IME as the plastic gets very brittle and the clips are very snug. The ideal tool would have a wide flat blade like the screwdriver in the photo but with a thinner shaft, it is all done by feel however as the tool has to slide under the molding while it is still attached. The photo of the left front sunroof corner is staged to show where the clip is located after it broke. To lever the clips out you twist the screwdriver. Once the side molding is removed there are three nuts on each side (with shims) which attach the glass to the sunroof mechanism.

Thanks. It was mentioned that the tan is no longer made. Do they make a black? Or would we have to buy gray and use paint on it?

The slit drains are at the very bottom of the rocker panels where the pinch weld is and run the length of the rocker panels, each about a foot or so apart as you go from front to rear.

I recently attacked this task, I removed the entire diver side of the headliner & was able to remove it with a helper. I left the front window, pillars & passenger side attached. Its not the worst thing to do however its a pain at the rear window rubber & those clips. A few putty knives and a screwdriver and your all over it. Good Luck...

i found a new problem or maybe the real problem. The rear is not closing all the way. When the sunroof is in the closed position the DS rear corner has about 1/4 inch of "slop" in it. I can push it up into what i believe is the closed position. For whatever reason it is not locking into the closed position on the DS rear.

I would return your drain tubes to their normal position and water test it...with your headliner down and your carpet out you should be able to see whats going on.... before removing your sunroof..I thought my sunroof was leaking and it turned out to be the front windshield rubber was dry rot....

My head liner is still in. I just took the glass out. I wrapped it in a inner tube to see if it helps seal up better.

Water is running nicely down my drain tubes but i am just getting a lot of water through the drains. I guess i could drop the end of my drain tubes back into the rockers and spray my sunroof with a hose. See if it all comes out the rockers or if the overflow and get the floor wet.

There have been a few threads where the sunroof did not fit up snugly into place, forget the details of the fix. One problem had to do with a round plastic nylon slider or roller that had become flattened on one side IIRC.
