Got the new race firmly seated using the old one and now the old race is stuck. Any removal tips? I don’t want to bugger more than I already have.

weld a flat bar with a stud to it and pull with the slide hammer, or if you have enough of a lip come in from the opposite side with a brass drift and drive it out.

Suspect I was supposed to put fat end to the skinny end…..

Tried #2 no work. The edges are exactly the same diameter. Could you describe #1 in a bit more detail? Pretend I’m 10yo. Mentally.

If you take a piece of flat stock to span the race, drill 2 1/4” holes in the stock at each edge of the race that allow you to weld the race to the flat bar. You can then weld an appropriately threaded stud or bolt in the center of the flat bar and then thread your slide hammer onto that. Then have someone hold the hub or wedge it under something and hit it with your big purse(lol).

I’ll use my hammer! Note my handle and recent post. Thanks for the tip

Do NOT use a big ol' hammer. ;)
Thanks. I needed that. Got the new drifts but the chamfered edge makes it a bit of a pain to use in tight situations

Just hit out the new one and started over. Used my most gentle hammer.

Cut the old race, you can still use it to drive and it’ll never get stuck
Yeah I got it by just pushing the new one out and starting over. So putting the fat end of the old one on top and hammering the skinny end is the right way to use it correct?

You need to cut a slot in the old bearing race with a thin cutting disc on an angle grinder.. it wont get stuck then.

That's a good trick, cutting a kerf in the old race. I usually just drive in the new race with a brass drift, walking the drift around the circumference.
