I drive my '06 LX470 infrequently, primarily using a quad to get around town due to its convenience.

Nevertheless, I take my LX out once or twice a week.

Recently, it has been stuck in limp mode, displaying the Check Engine Light, VSC TRAC, and VSC OFF indicators.

What are the most common causes of this issue?

Yup as @Trunk Monkey mention get the code read or just get yourself your own OBD2 code reader and find the code yourself.

The codes will be very descriptive in troubleshooting your next step.

Ah, I was going off this

A good place to start is cleaning the MAF, that was my issue with similar symptoms. I do it once a year now.

Really its could be all kinds of things...MAF, IAC, TPS, Coil, Fuel, ABS sensors, Transmission sensor, oh yours being a 06, a AIP system (Air Induction Pump). So many things can cause this that Toyota just disables your car so you dont damage it any further. So code reading would be the best way to get this working.

If you are on Mac computer.. why not just get Techstream working on your laptop via a virtual machine and a compatible OBD2 data cable that you can get from Amazon. That would read all codes and then some. No more guessing on what the code is at all.

Everytime this has happened to me, it was one part of the secondary air system or another. Especially if it goes into 35 mph limp mode.

I have had this happen to me 4 times. Twice on a Tundra and twice on the LX470 that I have now. One of the times the vehicle never entered limp mode.

This is extremely common on all '06 4.7s. You need a code, but I'd say that is it. I have had MAF, and TPS issues as well, those typically don't go into limp mode unless you ride with the codes for a while - you will feel it though.

Hey, indy2guanacaste.

Any update on how it turned out? I just had this issue start yesterday. I haven't gotten to try anything yet but I am building a list of potentials.
Wonder if it could have been a fuse?

My engine went limp mode and made shuttering sound (if you press the gas hard it won't go fast), this is on LC 200 series not LC 100 series.

I popped open the hood and found some nuts and rat poop on the battery area. So figured it was a chewed up wire.

Turns out it was an engine knock sensor that the mice bit up as I saw the cable was damaged, replaced that and it's gone.

You need to read the code, otherwise it's speculation.
