Hi everyone - Sorry if this is a repeated thread - but I am in need of help - i have a 1975 FJ40 - and I want to know the factory tire size as I have factory rims.

Also can someone provide me the same factory tire dimensions for my 1964 FJ45 -

I believe both are the same - if someone can confirm that would be great. Also is there a particular brand and thread type to getting it looking as factory as possible?

I show H78 - 15 205 / 75 R15 LT

Thank you in advance everyone!

There is a lot of info here if you take some time to search, topic has been covered many times. Search 7.00x15 this is the tire size for early fj45 and fj40’s.

The '75 40 did come with H78-15, generally Dunlop Snow Cruisers. If you are staying with bias ply tires as original, STA makes their Super Traxion in H78-15, L78-15 & 7.00-15. All are very similar in size, all will fit your stock rims fine. The 7.00-15 is made in much larger quantities and so is considerably cheaper than the other two sizes.

The 45 would have come with 15" rims and tires if it is a US model, or 16" for most of the rest of the world. The 16" would be 7.50-16 on split rims. If they are 15", the original size was probably 7.60-15 old style sizing, which converts to the same 7.00-15 listed above. The early 15" wheels were riveted tube-type wheels.

I just put the 7.00-15 Super Traxion on my '64 FJ40 on the original riveted wheels with new tubes. I like them a lot.

I Went the same route as OregonFJ-- after seeing his rig

Can those STA Super Traction’s be run in a tubeless manner or do all bias ply tires have to be with tubes?

As far as I can tell this is the stock spare

edit- for my 1974

The set I got (from Summit Racing) are tubeless, as long as you have the later welded tubeless wheels.

Nope, that's a Chevy wheel. Tire is one size smaller than stock on the later FJ40s, and is not a Japanese make. Plus Toyota never fitted whitewalls, ever.

Thanks for ruining my dream! Hahahahaha!

So for real, thanks for clarification. I was going to try to find out eventually and you got it for me

I'm running bias plys without tubes on my rig with early riveted wheels, no issues. I thought the later welded wheels were for clearance for disc brakes, otherwise no difference (?).

My friend's rig with 7.50/15's. Don't recall what make they were.

Riveted wheels were designed as tube-type. Large stem holes, no safety humps to retain the tire bead when flat. The rivets were never designed to be air tight, although many may be - especially if powdercoated. To be 100% safe, I'd recommend tubes in any riveted wheel. But that may just be my training from 20+ years working in the tire/wheel industry speaking.

Good Morning Everyone - I went with OregonFJ's suggestion - I went with the STA super traxion for both the FJ 40 and the FJ45 - Summit Racing had the lowest price - greatly appreciate the help everyone! Looks like the current rims and tires - just about brand new are available
