if you dont mind sharing, how much did you pick up the donor for? good find.

Nice work Stevo!! Tom when did you get a winch? is that the one off the 40??

You sure those front springs aren't too long?
Looks like when you get weight on them, the shackle may bottom out the opposite way no?

Found the truck on craigslist, ended up paying 1000$ for the truck:), $300 to have it delivered.

Yeah I noticed that, I have extra hangers, so when I do my body swap if the shackle angle is too severe I will cut the old hangers off and weld some new ones on.

errr... it's gonna look a little like this.

BattleWagon is that your truck? If so did you drive it at all with the shackles with that severe of an angle?

Gotcha, well I'm going to angle the pinion up a bit and do a cut & turn to address the caster.

It would have some killer droop, but I personally would like to see the angle closer to 45*

stevo on my 63'' chevy springs my angle is 50 degrees and it seems to work perfect

Well, I had a few hours to work on the truck last night, and managed to get the whole front axle apart.

For anyone who might be afraid of taking apart your axle for a knuckle rebuild, don't be. Just make sure you have plenty of toilet paper or paper towels because it is messy.

I managed to snag a few pics, I would have documented it better, but I was working alone and my hands were super greasy.

I have a question for those tuned in, whats the best way to clean up the steering knuckles? I was thinking about hitting them with a power washer to get them all cleaned out.

Brake cleaner worked pretty well, but I don't feel like spending the money on buying a bunch of it.

Pics of the axle at the end of the night:

A parts washer if you've got one available is the best way to go. That's what I used last time I did mine. Failing that, I'd say physically remove the grease as best you can, then hit the hard to reach areas with soime Castrol Super Clean to get the stubborn stuff out.

How do you like the flex on those 63" Chevys?
it fxxxing silly how much flex there is! i have yet to get full droop with them i stopped trying when my high lift had the bumper eye level with me. the shocks limit the chevy springs, your gonna love them! my only bitch is the overloads always twisting on my

Get all that grease out first.. I have used a heavy duty set of gloves, acetone and rags...
I also used a power washer but it sucks getting all the greasy stuff all over the place.... mind yah, you have a huge open space where you at..so that should no be an issue...

Nice, I can't wait to try them out, I got 22" on the stock springs with front swaybars which I thought was pretty good. June is coming up quick.

Also about the cleaning. I was leaning towards the power washer, due to the fact that there is a large concrete slab outside of the shop, then whatever is left I could scrub out with gas or degreaser.

one Side note though I strongly recommend a stiffer shock in the rear because the back is like a boat without it
