I had a pair of indoor/outdoor Boston Acoustics speakers mounted to the C piller of my rollcage for a long time.

Worked great 'cept on the highway with no top, could barely hear it then.

do you have jump seats in your rig?

if not then mount ammo boxes to your wheel wells and install speakers and amps in there. I have the mid range speakers facing forward and as you can see in this pic i have tweeters mounted as well. I really like this set up for me because i use a bench seat in the rear.. and the ammo boxes act as arm rests for the back seat. Here's a couple pics so u get the idea.

I also have my bench seat packed with bass cuz i like it to thump..;)

I put the stereo in the dash and amp in the console, I used some of the speakers that are designed for wakeboard boats, they clamp to the roll bar anywhere and are weather proof, not only sound good but look cool too.

Your best option is to build some boxes right behind the seats for some 6x9's. From the looks of your truck you have the long jump seats so no room for them on the wheel wells. I have a box that holds 2 6x9's that is mounted in the low area behind the seats. The speakers aim up and you can hear them ok. You should be able to run a pair of 6x9's off of the head unit with no problem. No amp really needed. I also run a powered sub but to each his own. A really good option that will fit under the seat is this unit Blaupunkt THb 210A Enclosed Subwoofers

Some guy just posted a pic of a shelf he made to fit right on top of the rain gutters. He mounted speakers and a radio or CB in there, looked really nice. Can't find that thread, but it was pretty recent.

I was going to do the same thing on mine since i have one of these on the roof

I'm working on building a few speaker boxes for mine. Just started planning so no progress pictures but here are my thoughts:
Front - I have no heater so I'm building a box to rest against the firewall on the transmission hump to hold two component 5 1/4s along with their tweeters and crossovers.
Back - 6 1/2 boxes based exactly off of what Coyner has done:

Amp - still trying to figure this out but I think I'm going to build an amp rack to mount under the driver's seat.

Going to take me some time to get these completed but I will work on getting pictures when I can.

Stereo Console

I used an ammo can, mounted it between the seats, cut about 3" off the bottom, cut the lid, and added hinges. I put a lock and handle on the lid and mounted the stereo at an angle for the driver. The face of the stereo comes off and there is an ipod jack inside the console. I also added a 12v receptacle inside the box. The latches are now bolted so you can't otherwise open the ammo can.

AMP

I put an amp under my passenger seat and ran wires under the mat to to speakers that are not mounted but placed under the rear seats. I have two toggle switches mounted below the dash to turn on rear heater and amp. I have a very stock '79 fj 40 that i did not want to cut up. I run my ipod out of the amp. This set up looks and sounds great. If you want pictures let me know and i will send.

I can't believe you didn't search this! GOSH!
Just kidding. Lots of good ideas on this thread. I plan to do all marine equipment except the HU. I may do that to but maybe install a remote on the dash and put the HU in the glove box or console. i will put a marine waterproof amp under the driver seat mounted underneath it so you won't see it. Speaker placement is tough though. I may make some QForms using marine speakers too.

Do you have a problem with stuff getting down in the cd player?
and was cutting off the bottom for height reasons only?
What does the bottom consist of now?

No problem with the CD player-the Sony seems to kind of seal when no CD is in it. Also hard to see, but the stereo is actually angled toward the rear about 30 degrees. I cut the bottom off because the box was too high. I used 3/4" ply in the bottom and lined the can with dynamat and carpet.

I have my stereo head unit in Tuffy box between seat, Deluxe Stereo Security Console for Jeep Wrangler, YJ, CJ-5, SJ, Toyota Truck, Ford Bronco
amp up high under driver's seat, two tweeters under front Tuffy cupholders and two Tuffy speaker boxes w/ 6X9's in rear of tub behind rearmost rollbar loop and rounded edge of tube.

I think an improvement would be to add larger/more front speakers. I don't run my hard-doors and I don't want to cut holes in them. The only other real alternative that I am aware would be to buy/fab the speaker locating/mounting plates that go over the kick-out vents. SOR kickvent speakers1.webp

Good for most anything under about 45MPH topless, but too much competing noise for much over that.

the front speaker placement is driving me crazy.
I have a metal tech cage and i have a Tiffy overhead console. so a sound bar is out.
Have seen the kick panel set up. wonder how good the sound is from them.

anybody know if these would work between the shifter and console.

Thanks,
