I just got my 03 LX a couple weeks ago and knew when I bought it I would have to get an alignment. They had to recenter the rack because the TREs were maxed out. I assumed this was the original rack but maybe it was replaced. The PO didn't mention it and there was no record but it does have 228k.

I searched and every thread with issue was after a replacement was put in. Is there any way the original rack could get that far out?

I took mine to get an alignment after installing Ironman suspension. They couldn’t do an alignment with the condition of the steering rack. I forget what they said exactly, but between what they told me and some research on this forum I ended up replacing the steering rack bushings and then they were to do the alignment.

Try searching for threads on VGRS. There’s a procedure for centering the steering wheel using the VGRS. It’s possible that someone worked on the steering that wasn’t familiar with that procedure and used the TREs instead to try and center the steering leading to the maxed out condition

Thanks. That makes perfect sense. It hadn’t been serviced at a dealership in a long time so likely the PO was getting it aligned at a smaller shops.

The VGRS is exactly why I took it to the dealership for this. There are so many threads on the off center wheel and I haven’t quite gotten to Techstream yet.
