Unbelievable. Someone needs to be slapped for that. :bang:

That's being nice.....

I am swinging by ACC in Atlanta tomorrow with the rig to get their opinion as well.

I hope with it on a trailer. You also have either a bad axle seal or wheel cylinder spitting s*** out on your LR tire.

More pictures from the front of the truck please. The bent front springs are a PO mod I have never seen before; it is amazing how terribly inventive people can be. I have a hunch your steering linkages are probably as bad as your springs. You should consider not driving this truck on the road until you fix the myriad of issues you have.

Here is a pic directly from the front. Is this what the arms are supposed to look like?

BTW, shakes at 65mph can also be unbalanced tires

[Never mind, I didn't see that last pic till now.

HOLY CRAP!

You need to get that fixed ASAP before you kill yourself and some innocent person that maybe around you when that grenades

I shakes @ 65. I think your lucky you made it back.

Can someone show me a pic of what the steering arm is supposed to look like, remember this is my first FJ, not sure what it is supposed to look like. Definetly want to get this thing right, even if I decide to sell it.

Somebody please point me in the right direction. I am switching back to SUA from CCOT. What needs to be done to the arms up front?

If the rig is set up for SUA, the fat end of the shims would face forward on front axle, rearward on rear.
If the rig is set up for SOA, the opposite.

Far from being an expert on caster, I'd say if you keep it an SOA rig, you'd need at least a 4° shim, perhaps as much as the 6° others are suggesting. Whatever shims you wind up getting, it's best to get ones made of steel, not aluminum. Roger the 4Runner guy sells nice steel ones. Best of luck.

I got that the shims are wrong. How about the bar shaped as a Z? Is that correct? If not what do people do with the lifted FJ's to get it where they need to be.

Sorry for the dumb questions guys, I just want this thing right.

Ok dude, really, you need to not drive that. Rent a car if you have to. You don't need any more opinions. It needs to be taken off the street and fixed. The steering link needs to be straight. That whole 'Z' thing is flexing above 40mph and is going to collapse at the bends leaving you with no steering.

Do a search for high steer. Yours was done to save money and sold because it sucked. It needs new steering arms at the knuckles and new steering rods to tie it together. The steering gets tucked up above the leaf springs. If you go back to SUA you can keep your steering arms and stock tie rod and get the original pieces to put it back together.

First, decide how tall you want it. If you're thinking mild lift, 2.5" - 4", that's SUA. With the cheezy spring mod it might be 4" now. The minimum lift you can get from SOA is about 6-7" and is suitable for 35-37" tires. What do you want? Then figure out what it's going to cost. If you go SUA you can pretty reasonably keep the manual steering and just rebuild it. If sticking with SOA, everyone is going to recommend power steering. If you don't regularly weld yourself it's going to be pricey, a couple thousand. (?)

A picture that is not specifically of my high steer:

No. It's not right. It's stupid.

With a spring over, the best thing to do is to get a hi-steer setup from a place like 4x4labs. Google it.

Do a search for high steer. Look at my 'after' thread, though there is maybe not a complete steering picture in there.

Editer...

I don't need any more opinions on the front end being crap, I got that much.

I am ordering parts. SUA lift, which high steer do you recommend and does some one make a high steer for the 72 knuckles or do I have to convert them to the 79-85 knuckles?

You don't need high steer if you are going back to spring under axle. You need a factory straight tie rod and drag link.

And a straight relay rod.

Man-a-Fre sells the steering arms in heavy duty version
