What is rebuildable on these old boxes?
Thanks for asking Nolen. I have replacement sector shafts, sector rollers and bushings, as well as gaskets that I have laser cut for me. I doubt any other rebuilder can offer those things, which is why I think they put grease in them instead of oil when they’re done ‘rebuilding’ them.

One of many things that people don’t stop to consider is that when thrust washers are removed from the sector shaft, the sector no longer has the full support of the side cover. And some of the side cover bushings are already worn. So just slapping it back together ensures it will just leak sooner as the shaft wobbles off center and wears the seal faster.

When needed, I press in a replacement bushing that sits proud of the stock lip, and will reach the sector in its new location.

@65swb45 I do realize that this violates all protocols of communication, (sorry for not sending smoke signals). We will be in Orange County visiting our daughter and SIL around mid-August and I would like to make a fieldtrip to see you and tour the shop if you will be around. Thanks.

Leave him a message on his answering machine between 2 and 3 every second Tuesday.

Or this open PM seems to work. I learned something ….

You forgot the part about burning incense. 😛

If I recall correctly, that was a suggestion from Dearborn while he was applying pink spray paint to your rear diff at Katemcy 19 years ago.

The carriers say that everything needs to be packed as if it could fly off a conveyor belt at 80mph. But somehow I still think there is a human element in all of this.

Thankfully, my wife is an EXCELLENT packer. In this particular case, I remember hearing her cussing, trying to get the smaller box into the bigger one!
