I have a can I bought last year but haven't used it yet.
Hopefully, I'm going to have my drive train out shortly and I'm going to use it to paint my transmission.

mtquivr, looks like Dave Deal (Big Deal) again spread his Downey "paid for" art to more people. Your Coyote with Japanese head band was originally created by Dave Deal for a product line we were going to produce called "Coyota Products". We never did create the product line, nor did we ever use the art, sooooo Dave must have felt at liberty to re-circulate it?????

I had the original catalog with the artwork back in the '80s. When I was stationed in Korea I had a T-shirt made from it. My avatar is from a photo of the t-shirt.

I bought 3 cans. Really impressed with it. The colors great and it seems to be really strong stuff. Definitely not like normal paint. Prep is everything though....we used it on freshly sand blasted metal. Worked great. Great coverage too. I'll post up some pics tomorrow if I can find them.

I bought a can of some kind of stainless paint(made with stainless particles).....it's nice stuff too. Got that stuff on Amazon. It was cheaper than the Steel-It.

Yeah, the Steel-it is not cheap, that's why I'm trying to see if it's worth it. I had my 40 on the lift, had it wire brushed by the owners kid, de-greased, washed. Then hit with 3M Rust Converter then black gloss Rustoleum. Looks great and it's been a couple of years. Now I'm looking at my 80 and wondering if it's worth it or just go the 3M route again.

I think the Steel-It is meant to be applied over clean sandblasted metal. It's cool stuff but I think there are better products for frames. Just my opinion.

A friend who was a painter for a local industry provided some for a trailer we were building out of old steel shelving about 10 or more years ago. I thought it worked and held up well. We put a coat of rust doctor on it and then used steel it as I recall. I sold the trailer about 2 or 3 years ago and it was still in good shape.
