Can you identify this starter?

Last night after my son's ballgame, got in the cruiser to go home, turned the key and nothing. Lights etc. all came on, but would not turn over. No clicking sound. Nothing. After checking the battery connections, decided to tap on the starter as a last act of despiration, and low and behold it cranked right up. After searching prior threads, I suspect I need to replace my starter motor contacts. The problem is, I don't know which starter I have, or if it is even a toyota product. I can't find an ID tag anywhere on it. Can anyone tell from the picture which starter this is. The PO may have replaced it with an aftermarket for all I can tell. Should I just replace the whole thing?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The part number will be on the top if it's oem. You can spot it with a flashlight looking down from above.

It is not a 28100-66060. I think it may be a 28100-66040, I do not have one of those to look at but the housing end looks like a 66040

Mine currently has a NAPA reman I bought in Birmingham to get my butt home.

I will be feeding CDan's dogs at some point, just not yet...I will milk this one for a bit longer till I move it to spare status ;)

Thanks for trying guys. I don't see any tag when looking down on it from above. Maybe I'll pull it off and see if I can find anything.

Mine was well hidden under muck. You have to really rub off the dirt to see anything.

It's probably a junkyard 28100-66040.

I would give that a 98%

That looks like mine when I pulled it out. I'm almost certain it is not a Toyota starter, probably a reman. from napa or autozone. I replaced my starter contacts with what I bought from dan, and it worked out good.

That yellow marking screams "breaker" (you yanks call 'em Junk Yards.)

I pulled it yesterday and it was definitely some kind of junkyard reman. Had a tag on the backside that said "World Class Remanufactured." My local toyota dealer had a 2.0kw in stock, so I bit the bullet and bought it instead of trying to rebuild the no-name. At least now I know what I've got and can fix it myself in the future, and I don't have to worry about my truck burning itself up today.

Thanks again for all the help trying to identify the old starter. This is a great site!!:)
