as of today, Christmas morning, my son put his new carb on and we got the 69 - the tan one to run briefly. Still needs some adjustments and tinkering, but this was the first time we have heard this engine run. Blew a few puffs of smoke and idled. We flooded it on second attempt, but it was a pretty proud moment to see what my son has accomplished! Will be posting some new pictures soon. Merry Christmas

Well done on the rebuilds guys, great to see. I'm in the middle of a 69 rebuild in Australia and your an inspiration. Look forward to seeing some more pics of where your at.
Good luck.

SWEET !!!!!!!!! looking good when we get some time we have make a drive up and check it out in person let me know if your in need of anything ( i still have your tail light )

Nothing against the white, but I love that tan!!! I think that that is my favorite cruiser color. Your son definitely picked the better color :)

Great thread and keep us updated on the builds!

yep, he got me on the color! Something about white cars and my failure to wash seems to work out real well though in the long run!

warmer temps mean the work will get going again, will post updated pics soon

problably a dumb ?, but did you have to put a bolt in all the threaded holes prior to spraying the durabak?

I did put bolts in most of the holes until I ran out, then I rolled up masing tape into a funnel shape and stuck in the holes, the tape worked great, but I would definately plug holes before, I missed a few and they were a pain to clean out.

its been awhile

Haven't posted pics or updates in awhile. My son's 69 (tan)is up and running and pretty much a local daily driver. He has time to work on it often. He has come across many deals and is very handy. The 72 is coming along slowly! Drove it all summer, just bought new tires. Hard top is not done, and it is too cold to drive.

old rims painted

Was planning on new rims, decided to paint these in the meantime. Sand blasted them first, rattle canned them with rustoleum's semi gloss black spray paint. Came out sweet! I recommend this paint - dries looking like powder coat.

looks good

Well you got two up and running and I am still working on my one and only---good job!

Looks great all the well job done ! but just my personal ?..why did the beige 69 ends with diamond plates at the corners after a nice paint?...

rear corners are shot - had the diamond plate. Hate to say it but the white one will be wrapped in SOR black diamond plate when the budget is favorable. Both are toys to play in the dirt. Dream of some day owning something oem nice, but that is not the plan with these

yeah, something about white and black does it for me! The fiberglass hard top will end up a dark grey. I am planning on spraying on durabak. I will wrap it around the top edge just far enough to seal the seams. The back end will be black diamond plate. Should have a good look overall.

new photos

Here is latest of my son's 69. He has added saginaw power steering. His has become a daily driver. He is currently attending UTI and becoming quite a mechanic! Planning on changing the rims, and who knows what else.

Update on my 72

Hardtop is now done, all windows back in. Fiberglass top sprayed with grey durabak, very happy with results! I don't know how well picture will show durabak, but it looks nice. Diamond plate corners were shiny, but I tsp scrubbed them and sprayed them with semi gloss black so as they get worked I can respray them.
