New guy checkin in, my son and I are starting 2 builds, one a 69 and the other a 72. both look bad, but are solid. I'll be posting as the builds get going, my son has a little more work to do - but he seems to have the time, currently his is almost down to frame. Ulitmate goals are crawlers. Any good advice on getting sprayed or rolled on liner off the undercarriage? looks like someone rolled underside of body - I spent over an hour with course wire brush on high speed grinder on half of underside of front fender. I have seen some other posts with no one doing much better - last ditch plea before I give in and just spray a fresh coat on - anyone tried acid, or some other chemical?
I'll post pictures through the build,
thanks!!!

Did you pick the camo cruiser in Watsonville, CA? It looks really familiar.

sure did - you know history?

updated pictures

Haven't found much time, front end almost back together, windshield frame and wipers mostly complete, feeling good!!! Hood not painted yet due to a few minor repairs uncompleted

I think doing two at one time makes for quicker builds - if I haven't figured something out chances are he has, plus he has lots of time and is always out working on his, puts a little pressure on me to get off my ass

I am glad it found a good home. It was too much of a project for my experience, so I passed on it when I was looking for my 40. I knew it had a lot of potential. The guy you bought it from is a firefighter? really nice guy. He told me he bought it as a project, but never got to it. So it sat for awhile. He said he bought it in San Jose, CA and drove it home to Watsonville. He said it was a scary ride :) I think he fixed the front end after that. He also owns a sweet very clean sock 84' P/U. Anyways that is all I know of the history, not much. Welcome to Mud!

Thanks for the bit of history. I think he spent about 800 on the steering, but it is still bad! He did shocks and stablizers, maybe a little more, but he didn't tighten up the tie rods. I am hoping to do a spring over with fj60 axles from proffits within the next few months. When I do that I will be adding power steering and high steer. Can't wait!

new pics of 72 out in the sun!

felt great to roll this baby outside and see it in the sun. Spent most of the day helping son paint his 69

great pics

Nice to see the work in progress! Nothing like an eager kid with a car to build to get you moving like you said! ha ha!

I remember my Dad shaking his head in despair at the junkyard wrecks I though were feasible---who restores a hudson? ha ha!

Anyway you guys are doing a great job it looks lke and you'll have rigs to be proud of I'm interested cause I just purchaseda a 71 and have all the work to do yet---best of luck:cheers:

What's a Hudson??? (kidding, but damn you're old...)

Anyway, looking great on the 40's. Keep it up. Gonna pass mine on eventually.

spray on liner - LOVE IT!

On sunday as my son sprayed his topcoat I played with Dura bak spray in liner - I love it, so easy to put on, no mistakes, just blow more on. I went with the gray color, totally easy to apply, hardest and most time consuming part was all the masking. I put on 1.75 gallons - several thick coats. It is now fully cured and looks *****in.

suggestion on the rhino liner---would a heat gun soften it enough to scrape off? might want to watch out for fumes or fire though.

I have heard that with the right tip a honda 5 hp powersprayer can strip paint

best of luck

oh by the way since you have a 72 if you hear of a hardt top to fit a 71 I'd sure appreciate it

watch the parts for sale forum on mud, we found an almost complete top for my son's for 160, and it looks like we will find the remaining parts for less than 100. Can't beat this web site!!! There is also a wanted section - post what you need there as well

It is looking really nice. I am glad the camo is gone :) The cruiser is getting what it deserves. Wish I had the knowledge and equipment to paint my 40 :frown:

work has slowed

We have been dealing with the fires up on this mountain and had to leave home. Our area is still evacuated until further notice, but we stayed close enough to come back - never left the mountain. Once returning home my son immediatly started back to work on his 69. I will post updated pics soon.

work is starting again

the white 72 just got gray leather seats out of an accord yesterday and the head is back on the tan 69. I will try to post pictures ASAP
