Hello,

I read the new members guide/directory and am having trouble finding an alternator replacement write up. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Alternator removal from top. Just an example. There are probably many other threads on the topic.

Thank you! I was searching from the side of the road so i could decide if I’d get it towed to a shop or home. Think I might tackle it!

Hi folks!

My 2009 Land Cruiser is starting, running for a few seconds, then dying. Initially I thought this was my alternator, hence the previous questions. When I got home I realized my headlights are bright as day, and all my interior electronics work fine. My voltage is right around where it should be.

Could this possibly be a fuel issue?

I did have an EVAP code about two months ago. I looked over everything and couldn’t find a problem, took it to a mechanic that was also dumbfounded he couldn’t find anything. We cleared the code and it never came back.

Now I’m wondering if these could be related?

Thank you!

It sounds fuel related. Checkout this thread which should help diagnose the issue.

Could be a number of things.

Vacuum leak:

Fuel Relay

Fuel Sender

Fuel Pump

Leaky windshield causing corrosion at main harnesses at footwell

In case it is helpful in the future, some of us have better luck using google to search 'mud, searching on something like this might find stuff: site:ih8mud.com "200-series cruisers" alternator removal

I had something similar happen with the starting then dying, but you'd want to do the diagnostics before throwing parts at it. Mine was a fuel pump ecu, and the way I determined that was by eliminating all other possibilities (since the fuel pump ecu itself is hard to diagnose). Might be something helpful buried in the thread of my experience: 2013 dies repeatedly while driving down the road - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2013-dies-repeatedly-while-driving-down-the-road.1157485/post-12558184

Agian, I'd do the diagnostics - could be low fuel, clogged fuel pump sock, bad fuel pump, etc, etc.

Thank you! I’ll work my way through the fuel system. I’ll probably have it to a shop long before I find out it’s a fuel pump ecu. Crossing my fingers!

Anyone know specs on the BudBuilt stainless skid hardware? Under the truck the other day and noticed a coupla bolts missing, or loose. Not sure how long they've been MIA, but im gonna need to replace. Emailed BudBuilt with no response. I see all the other options, but not 200. I'm sure I can walk into HD or Lowe's, but if someone knows it'd be cool.

I don't have a list handy, I never took the time to inventory before installing. I'd recommend calling. The only time I ever got email replies was when Rob was there and he's moves on.

Most of them are M8's. Can't recall the length but think I used these to replace some missing ones.
Amazon product ASIN B07RTPRHBV
The front skid uses longer bolts. They are 9/16 and need extension to remove skids except for front middle which is 1/2" Not sure on thread size and length.

I had this happen a couple of years ago on my 2009 LC, truck would come to life and then abruptly shut off (no CEL or other dash lights). It turned out to be an immobilizer fault. Mechanic cleared the code and "re-paired" one of the key fobs with the truck and sent me on my way, hasn't happened again since.

Thank you! You’re spot on, Toyota mechanic said it’s the “ID code box”, an immobilizer. Unfortunately re-pairing wouldn’t work and they will need to order another box. 8 business days for shipping, tearing the dash apart to get to the box on the firewall, and I’ll have my truck back.

Hello All!

When I had my aux battery installed, they put a 150A fuse between the two batteries. Glued or used some sort of sticky-tape to attach it to the top of the starter battery.

Any suggestions for what I could use to re-attach the fuse when I replace the starter battery?

Well that was pretty thoughtless on their part.

Assuming they used some sort of double-stick tape, you can probably use a heat gun to soften the stuff then run a piece of dental floss through it. I would not stick it back on to the new battery, for the same reason they shouldn't have put it there.

Consider upgrading to the Slee tray with a nice flat holddown clamp, it makes a convenient place to mount things like that.

I would also think about re-routing that heavy wire. A simple front end collision could cause a direct short to ground and a fire. Yes, there's a fuse to protect it but 150A is a lot of current.

Thanks @CharlieS! I have now ordered some of that tape.

@KLF
Wonderful! That install just keeps on giving!
See message three here for my experience with a local shop with that install.
Houston (or Texas) mod shop? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/houston-or-texas-mod-shop.1248926/
I’m kicking myself for not just taking it to Slee.

I don’t have time to mess with the tray right now before a road trip I’m heading on so the tape will need to suffice for now.
But I am planning on heading to Slee this summer for some other work and I’ll get them to put the tray in and to look it all over and improve.
I appreciate your input even if it’s not what I want to hear.

I suspect that @KLF is objectively correct about the risk.

On the other hand, it isn't the end of the world to have it the way you do. I purposely ran my power from my primary to my aux along the top of the radiator.
