Wow, that's going to be a great setup. Keep taking pics for us.

Okay...
I know its been a looong time coming, but I'm finally gonna finish up the project soon (Winter break). Everything's in, and hope to work on the exhaust tomorrow. Will also get some pic's up.
Still unsure about the wiring...did I need to keep the old ECU to tie the LT1 wiring harness into it? Got the LT1 loom all wired up to the motor/tranny, but am really confused as to how to wire the rig. Do I have to wire each gauge separately?
I heard/understand that the 6x's are a switched ground, and dont want to burn it to the ground!
Any help would be mucho appreciated!

What to do with this mess of the wiring harness?

Looking good. I am a little jealous of your shop set up though. I just finished up my project on my back.

Yeah, its my brother's shop...a tit for a tat.

The very first thing I would do is get an FSM for the year 60 you have. It will have a wiring diagram so you will know what wire does what. When I do an LT1 I integrate the Toy harness into the GM harness. Basically the Toy harness coming out of the firewall has everything you need to make the GM engine run(through the GM ECU of course), and it also contains all the gauge wiring for the Toy gauges. I remove the TOY sending units and install them into the GM engine and use the factory TOY harness cut to fit to run them. The LT1 can be the cleanest install of just about any of the GM engines because of accessory mounting. Here is a finished shot of a completed truck for a cheat sheet. The first shot shows a custom ECU mount behind the engine. The second is stock with the ECU mounted under the PS seat. The fan is from a Contour and fits the 60 core perfectly.

Will have to look up (and find) an FSM wiring diagram, and figure out the wiring then...
Unfortunately the Toy ECU went with the 3FE motor. I'm assuming that I need to find another ECU to plug back in then...so close, and yet so far from done.

Thanks Wag,
Unfortunately that harness also went with the old motor...
Is there any way to wire it without this harness? Or, is it just better to go ahead and find one for sanity's sake?

you might consider getting one of the stand alone engine harnesses from painless or other MFG. That's what I'm doing on my FJ60.

There will still be some challenges on even that.

Gary (Waggoner),

on your truck what's the black shroud.... that's not part of the fan setup is it? ITs the picutre of the engine from the top, does that picutre shouw a coutur fan setup or somthing else. What to me looks like the shroud is pretty thiick? Looks to be a different fan setup....whats the picture at the right showing the top view depict as far as the radiator fan setup / shroud?

That's what I've got (had the original harness rebuilt/cut from LT1 Wiring), but NONE are truely a "stand-alone" harness since you've got to integrate them nonetheless.
I've bought three harness' from Painless, and will never buy from them again...

I've got a painless, which I've not yet used. Some of the guys are saying Howell makes a good harness or a place called FIS. I don't have direct experience with either, but if you look at some of the other write-ups on V-8 Swaps you'll see their comments. I think one guy will even OEM harness and customize it for you (removing what you don't use).

I don't know yet if the painless harness will be "painful" or not... I'm just about ready to start my teardown on removing the I-6. I agree about the intergration. I'm wondering if you ran dual battery cables.... one for the 5.7 and one set that integrated the 60 harness. Of course you have to do some modification at the alternator and starter (i've yet to do that too) The key is in the fine print. I'm in the same boat on some of that stuff too.

I have a good OEM 5.7 Vortec harness, but it has miles of crap on it I don't want, plus it plugs into the firewall which of course I don't want either.

I don't plan on using the yoat temp guage, or oil pressure guage, so we'll see. I did see where one of hte guys doing a simalar swap had a problem with his charge light. I believe this are some comments about how to wire the alternator (how to intergrate the GM alternator with the Yoyata wiring connectors and also same thing with the starter.

I'll let everyone know if the painless harness sucks.... I don't recall others running a painless (maybe thats a clue which I should have paid attention to).

I took the GM wiring diagram and the 60 wiring diagram down to a blueprint shop and had all the wiring diagrams blown up and tacked them to the garage wall. This makes it easy to read and give you room to make notes along the way.

First I stripped the GM harness of all unused wires to clean it up. did the same with the Toyota harness and did the process of elimiations. Mounted the ECU uder the glove box on the firewall without cutting the GM harmess. You can also mod the factory tach for the V8. Take your time so you only do it once.

The one yellow plug that still remains under your dash is you instrument cluster stuff. That is your tie in to the dash and where you will tie into it with the GM setup. No additional plugs needed. Locate what you need and you are in there. Oh and very nice choice of engines. I would like to see the next set of spy photo's though..:grinpimp: Also I use FIS since time and custom fabrication of a harness takes time! You can custom order length and access. But everyone has their own favorite. If you have time to dig through the harness and de wire and hook in your splices that is cool. I did it once and after that I went with the new harness.

Alright, so I can access the instrumentation/etc without the use of the ECU/extended motor harness...Man, you guys are confusing me!
I dont recall the FSM having a diagram of that plug.
LT1Wiring redid my GM harness, and has all the GM wires "tagged" so IF I can figure out where they tie into the Toyoda system I'll be set. If anyone else has additional knowledge/advice please share!
I'm WAY too close to hooligan-ism!

Maybe PM Dynosoar, he has a similar setup...

Oh yeah, gutted out I gained around 2.5"'s of lift. That tranny is stout!
Try throwing one in the back of your pickup by yourself from a guys backyard! Build looks kewl.

I used the original fan shroud with a 19" electric mounted in it for a while. Right before I went with the 502, I went with the Contour fans.

The only issue you have with harnesses is how to integrate what you already have. You do not need to buy anything. You need to find everything in the Toy harness that you will be using first and label them. You need ign, tach, oil press, water temp, starter solenoid, etc., marked so you can make one simple harness that will use the existing Toyota wiring to run the GM ECU and the original Toy senders now mounted in the GM block.

Thanks for helping me out with this...I originally HAD the Toy harness tagged, but when the ECU was pulled there became nowhere to mark! I was also going to go look at buying another Toyota ECU/harness, but will hold off now...
Monday, Monday, Monday...

Got the carpet, center console, & B&M shifter in, and cant believe just how much fun pulling up all that jute junk was. Laid down some Raammat BXT while I was there.
