I was just looking at the new tub. I don't know if you salvaged the dash pad off the old tub. If you did you will find it has no space for a radio. The radio was missing when I got it, so when I replaced the pad, I just used an older style and covered the opening. (It was too loud with the Swampers to hear a radio anyway)
Fair warning 3 generations of my family are now following your progress. FJ40s seem to create a lot memories.
By the way this is my new memory maker.

That looks pretty SWEET!

I have not completely planned the dash out at this point but I am pretty sure that there will be no radio visible in the dash. I also have not decided about using the lower cover either....I will have to play all of that by ear.

I hope that our plans can live up to your families expectations...I only hope that they like green:)

There are never expectations or color concerns when it is someone else's nickel sponsoring the build. Knowing a small part of the history of your build just makes it more fun to watch.
My new cruiser has a headliner that droops on to head. Who did your Line-X? Do you like it?

Ottumwa Linex has done all of the coating on the FJ40, the pricing has been very reasonable too!
I can't really give an honest evaluation of the Linexed roof interior since it is not on the vehicle. The color is bright and the additional layer should help with noise. It looks a lot better than the scummy old roof liners. One of my plans is to put in some hidden LED lighting along the upper rim, I think that the white linex will reflect and light up the interior well.

Can I ask you another question about the Line-X? Did you use a solvent when you prepped it? I have sanded all of the stuck foam off but there is still is residual glue. I have an appointment to get mine sprayed next week.

They will prep it.

The linex will not really blend any defects in the fiberglass....so if you have a large blemish, it will come through as a raised or sunken area.

Make sure that you get a price in advance, our Linex guys are very honest...previous to them, there was a guy in Fairfield that would have charged triple.

I got a price from a local shop that seemed high. I called several other places and they were much lower. So I went back to the local shop with numbers in hand and they came down. Thanks again for your input.

Not sure how they came up with the price. They couldn't get it in for a week. Maybe they are scheduling it with another job. It is a PIA to have the cap off during this nice weather. I would love to be enjoying driving it right now. I was temped to take the rest of the top off but I hate to keep taking it on and off. It seems like every time you do there is another little scratch or chip. I would rather get those driving it.
When is your next update on your project?

Looks good Doc...what color of green is that?

Looks great!!!

Today the body met the frame, after some trimming of the poly mounts and reaming a few holes...it seems to fitting pretty nicely. My bolts were not long enough and no one in the area stocks 10mm metric fine thread bolts...so I will have to wait a week until those come in to finish this project.

The body shop guys were glad to hand over this job to me....they know that I am a little freaky about details.
