So I have anti inversion shackles of unknown origin on my 60. They have greasable pins all around. I am wanting to replace them all with solid pins.
My newbie question is: are all FJ60 pins typically the same or do I need to pull mine out and measure?

All the stock Toyota shackle pins are the same OD. Aftermarket shackles can be anything. My rear HD greasable shackles I got from SOR use a different bushing (for example). Pins are bigger.

If you want to remove the grease zerk for whatever reason, the shackle & bushing will work perfectly fine not greased. The grease is just a (nice) perk on greasable shackles. It's not needed anymore than its needed for the stock shackles.

My motivation for this is a broken greasable pin (years ago). It broke (on the way out into the woods) at the cross-drill. I KNOW that this shouldn't happen with properly maintained pins (cleaned, greased regularly etc) BUT I'd really rather not have to have that on my routine maintenance list.

PLUS the zerks have sheared off on most of the pins leaving easy entry for water and crap. Note: I tried to replace the zerks, I was planning on replacing them with little bolts and only putting the zerk in to apply grease BUT I could never find replacement zerks or bolts that fit the way I thought they should. And the sellers of the anti-inversion shackles would not supply replacement zerks.

AND my truck is mostly a trailer queen at this point - wheeling only, so no concern for street ride quality.

SO: my quest for solid pins!

So "all the same size", which is 18mm...?

And the length and/or diameter where the splined parts seat in the shackle won't vary?

Just to confirm, the knurled shoulder will vary by manufacture but not my much as its generally the same 18mm diameter starting point. For example you can't necessarily pop the shackle pin out of an India made shackle and put it in the side of a Japanese made shackle and expect it to press tight. Also Old Man Emu (and those that have followed their style) don't use a knurl/spline at all but rather a shoulder that keeps the shackle from being over-tightened.

Kurt... I'll be contacting you to make the buy once I get the specs...

And PS: Some of us Gotham folks are planning on being at Cruise Moab this spring... hope to see you there!

Awesome and Awesome! I'll be there! I'm trying to think if I bumped into you since 2002 when you came out for the Olympics?

The bolts on my 60 appear to be about 1/2" (at the threads) x 5" long. Does this sound like it is the 18mm standard bolts?

If so I'm looking for solid bolts that don't cost a million dollars (metric vs standard sizes are like a 3:1 price delta)

ALSO: I have heard of some folks using 3/4" bolts and drilling out the shackles and bushings to match. Is this lunacy?

1/2 could go either way as a 15 or 18mm can neck down to 1/2" threads. I've seen 3/4" and 11/16" used over the years. 11/16" is just shy of 18mm so you might get some play, 3/4" will require drilling. Fwiw frozen bushings are easy to drill :D

So you are saying I need to pull these apart... arrggghhhh. (I store it on the trailer and didn't want to have to fiddle with getting the pin out...)

Do you sell the "proper" 18mm bolts?

I bought a few of these somewhere... (the shiny one) but I'd need more if these were to fit the shackles on the truck.

Sorry, we don't. All of our shackles and spring pins are knurled ends with shoulders to prevent over-tightening and are only sold as assemblies. I've not had much call for individual bolts so I've not really looked for a source.
