Ignore the part about the EGR. That was featured on the larger engines for the 2004 EPA rules.

Ended up spending a pretty penny, but it's on it's way! It's the 400hp version with the Jacobs engine brake. All the accessories. 2004, 27k miles. Common rail, but no EGR/DPF bullpucky. I love the fact that people can't drive motorhomes worth a darn...

Might be a bit for other major purchases. Oh well. I have a large amount of sheet metal work to do on the front end in the interim!

I was planning on 42's. I might need bigger meats to balance out the look of a stretched front end. We'll see what the extent required is. Good thing about the motorhome versions of this motor is they come with two hydraulic pumps. One for steering, the other for a remote hydraulic cooling fan...

What's your experience with the Roadrangers? I've only driven a truck with one once. Loved it!
 
Got another set of air brakes for the rear parking cans. Didn't cost that much more than just two cans. Upon arrival, I noticed one of the caging bolts was AFU. Just my luck.

I managed to get it apart without killing myself, in spite of the warnings on the end of the can. HA! Turns out they used a bolt as the caging device, and the head sits all the way at the bottom of the hollow piston.

Unfortunately, they didn't put any sort of thrust washer under the head so it galled against the piston. And it is 16mm x 1.5 x 115mm long, all threaded. Someone went to uncage it and used an impact gun. That sheared the roll pin and the remnants wiped the threads on the bolt. I just ordered up some stuff from McMaster and I'll try to duplicate the bolt, only this time with a thrust bearing in the mix. If it works well, the other one will get the same treatment. In case anyone is wondering, this is what the parking brake spring looks like.

So basically your brake springs are the size of most peoples coils? This thing is going to leave trenches in the pavement :steer:
 
It is brand new. My best guess is it got galled at the factory, and installed on an axle. The axle got shipped to the gov, who installed it and tried to uncage the brake with an impact gun. Homers. Then they removed the can and swapped it to a spare axle, which then got surplused. The nuts holding the can to the axle were not tight...

Cool. That's one big chunk of iron. Is it going to fit under the hood, or will you need to do a body lift on the truck?

If I remote mount the radiator, it will fit without stretching the front end. If I don't modify the hood, it hangs pretty low. No kidding, right? I will have to remove the front crossmember that came bolted to it and I think I will be able to do a test fit soon. The frame might get in the way though. We will see.
 
Cummins ISL. 8.9 liters, or 538 cubic inches. 4.49" bore by 5.69" stroke. 400 hp at 2000 rpm, 1200 ft-lb of torque at 1300 rpm. 550 ft-lb at idle (600 rpm). Electronically governed at 2200 rpm. Cummins C brake engine brake with up to 330 hp worth of braking. Somewhere around 1600-1700 lb. made the dodge ram 2500 in the picture squat a little.
 
You're gonna want a tuner to get the full potential out of that. All the 60's I've driven with that motor feel underpowered with the stock program.
