Good info! Apparently for a heavy wall 1710 driveshaft they chose 16,500 ft-lb for the 100% capacity. They don't say what in the driveline could yield at that, but it is safe to assume the 1710 ujoint is capable of much more than 7800 ft-lb!

It looks like they have a wide torque coverage, and the fuses hold the driveshaft together when they pop. The elements look easilly replaced, too. if I put one rated for about 6000 ft-lb in the drive line, that still gives me 18,000 ft-lb at the tire while limiting the load on the adapter to less than 7800 ft-lb. Winner.

snip.

You mentioned it was case hardened. You'll be cutting splines into the soft gooey center. I wonder if the splines can handle it? Or should you find a way to case harden it again?

Good luck!

This is an important point.
Once the hardened surface of a spline has worn away, the rest of them disappear at an alarming rate.
Definitely get that thing re-hardened.

Any updates?

Kevin gave up this project a long time ago.

Overly ambitious would be an understatement. That Fuller transmission was so big that it would have been riding waist-high between the driver and the passenger. It just wasn't practical and I never understood why he even wanted to use it.

I think it was more of a just because thing. Had to be.
