Anyone know if a splitcase will mate to an A343F? I just found my rear output seal leaking and would rather swap my case to a part time unit that I can put lower gears in at a later time than rebuild it if it's a fairly straight forward swap not requiring custom adaptors to be made.

I can never remember which trans was in what year of 80.
If the A343F is the early trans it should work. The same trans/xfer combo was in the later run FJ62...IIRC.
If it does you could also add a crawlbox to it with minor mods.
**looking at your sig line I see yours is a 97 so I am going to have to guess that it won't work but I could be wrong.

If the later 62's came with the same tranny as the first 80's then I think it will work. I *think* the tcase will swap out between all the years.

Define split case, as the 80 cases Split too... Are you thinking of a 80-92ish 40/60/62/80 case?

Well, I'm wanting to find out if I can put a part time case from an earlier cruiser in to allow me to run dual cases and such.

I've made a stab at trying to figure this out before. Info on the Mark's site indicates that the tcases behind the A440 in FJ-62s and the A442 in the FJ/FZJ-80s aren't the same, at least in regards to ratios. Behind the A442 they list the part time case (which we obviously didn't get) as the HF1A and the full time case as the HF2A. They don't give a model number for the FJ-62 w/A440 tcase that they list specs for (and neither does my shop manual, at least that I can find) but the low range ratio that they list is different than the low range for the HF1/2A cases. However the faq at off-road.com lists the ratios as the same (but it doesn't have any info list for the A440, which leads me to doubt this data). AA lists the HF2A separately from the 1980-1990 19 spline tcase (again, no part number) and lists different part numbers for mating to GM trannys. However it also states that the A440 was found in 60s, 62s, 80s and 100s!

At any rate this is all somewhat indirect - it doesn't actually indicate whether the split case in my FJ-62 will or will not bolt to the back of an A442. I'd like to drop a 1FZ-FE/A442 in my FJ-62 as a replacement for my 3FE. But all I want is the engine/tranny (or just the engine), I want to keep my tcase, axles...

Anyone know if the A442 and my earlier FJ-62 tcase can be mated?

Thanks,
Joel

Are all transmissions, 88-92 the same? If so, I would be led to believe that the T-case from a 62 would work in a 91/92 FJ80. If not, and adapter SHOULDN'T be too hard to fab.

Well, if someone has the bolt pattern of the back of an 80 series setup, I have several 89 & older setups around... We can at least verify the bolt pattern and shaft stickout...

I'm going to be parting a 94 soon. One of my projects during this is going to be to trace the bellhousing, output/input from the tranny to transfer case. I'm not thinking like you guys. I want to know if an Aisan A450 will bolt up to the 80 Tcase. That tranny is found in some Isuzu and a lot of UD diesel trucks. IT would make a sweet conversion to use the diesel tranny already set up for that motor.

Yes, but they are spoken for.

The 62's have an a440f that has the earlier 38mm splitcase mounted. The output shaft looks like the h55f.The 91-2 80's have an a440f and a short splined shaft with no threads. 93-4 used the a442f. 95-7 uses the a343f as do 100s. The 91-2 and 93-4 without ABS have the non viscous coupler t-case. 93-? use a V/C t-case but all 91-? look interchangible. If you have a 91-2 you could probably dual case it using the 62 a440f.

It has been said that the shafts on the 62's tranny were different from the 91/92's, which sucks for us. I sure would like to have the part-time case for an 80!

You can install the part time kit in your transfer case, since it doesn't have the VC. And according to Marks, the VC case (HF2AV) can be replaced with a spool and made part time.

80 series part time cases are also available in other countries.

This is the tranny mounting pattern for you, Kurt:

(Yes, this one has a PTO ;) )

Correct me if I am wrong that the VSC T-case cannot have a part time kit installed. For example, the 95 and 96 T-case. But it looks like Wagoner5 has done it.
