Had the Cruiser a few weeks now and am looking at what needs to be done. Have a couple major oil leaks that are getting attention soon (rear main and oil pan gasket). Also needing a new clutch. While the thing is apart, I'm seriously considering a 5 spd. We did this is one of our Early Bronco's, and it was the best money we spent. I've read a fair amount on them, and it sounds like they're a direct bolt up. Where is the best/cheapest place to find an H55? I live in Central Oregon, and I'm pretty sure there's nothing local. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Ben

It's a direct bolt up if you have a 1985 or later FJ60. If it's earlier, the 4 speed transmission is shorter and you'll end up having to replace the drive shafts, rig new transfer linkage, etc. You should be able to get one at any toyota dealer, but maybe not for the best price. But you should at least explore that option...

Yeah, it'll be going into an '85. I'd like to claim that I bought an '85 because I knew about this, but instead it can be attributed to the providence of God.

Seems like dealerships are always high on prices. I've bought just a couple parts from them already (3 point rear belts, front side marker light), but the more options the better. Anybody else?

Thanks chichiflys.

I sent W from Over the Hill an email. I'll probably call tomorrow as well. I did look at cruiser parts, too. The only problem I have is that I was talking to them about some retractable 3-points for the rear seat and they seemed really flaky. I really hesitate to do a couple grand in business with someone that's not on the ball.

Sweet. Thanks Ducks. Sent him a PM. Hopefully he'll have good news for me.

I got mine from Cruiserdan and he delivered it to me at Cruise Moab. There is a bunch of little stuff you'll need, like clutch parts that Dan will know and get you on the right track. It's the best single mod for an FJ60.

Welcome!! That Mod Is Pimp!!!!!!!!!!

I Am Thinking Bout It But I Will Be Doing A Vortech In The Comming Year..... So I Dont Know If This Tranny Will Hold Up With A V8 Pushing It To Its Limits.....
Welcom...

Toyota of El Cajon...Chris Wurtz is your guy. $1550 for the tranny, $104 for the 5spd shifter, and $75 freight. It does take a few weeks though.

Oh, and part numbers for oiler cup and shifter are:

33124-36010 is oiler cup

33530-60220 is shifter

FYI, I got those numbers from this archived thread...great info:

When I ordered from Chris, the shifter came up for him as a "Canadian" part.

Cruiserparts.net

I wouldn't buy it from cruiserparts.net, they jacked me for a trade on a clean front bumper. They misrepresented the rack that they were going to trade me. I sent them the bumper and I got a crusty, flaking, rusty POS 1950's looking 2 rod pole rack, no basket, no hardware... nothing. I threw it in the trash.

Got mine from CDan. He knows all of the little misc. parts that you'll need. You can get the clutch and everything else you'll need in one phone call. The price is about as good as you'll get too.

I called Toyota of El Cajon and was quoted $2444 for the H55 3days ago.

YIKES! Did you actually talk to Chris Wurtz? I'd be interested to see what pricing he'd give you if you talked to him and said that you know pricing other members of this board have received. Sucks if they've raised their prices.......BTW, I did most of my initial correspondence with Chris via email and I think the price i got may be an "internet" price.......I'd try them again.
