I have purchased the h55 5speed for my 85 FJ60. It will be here in a week.

I have also purchased a complete clutch kit, rear main seal, and 5speed knob from Toyota in California (I am in Texas). and I have ordered a T-case rebuild kit, and tranny output nut, and T-case output nut from CruiserOutfitters.com.

I am planning on having my shifter bent, instead of buying a new one.

here is my question:

I understand that there are a few more needed parts:
transmission transfer gasket (included in T-case rebuild ki t)
transfer case gasket (included in T-case rebuild ki t)
PTO gasket (included in T-case rebuild ki t)

Transmission outputcovergasket
the Toyota Dealership where I am getting my H55 seems to think that this comes with the H55, but is not sure.

I think that the oiler nipple is supposed to come with H55, but I am not sure. IF it is not, where do I get one?

IDLER GEAR O-ring. where do I get this? is it for the H55 or for the T-case? If for the H55, is it the same as for the 4speed? If it is for the T-case, I am sure it would be included in the T-Case rebuild kit.

The oiler nipple DOES NOT come with the transmission, unless the Toyota dealer put one in the box for you. To be safe, just buy one from your Toyota dealer - they only run a couple of dollars.

The transmission/transfer case gasket (what you call the transmission output cover gasket) should come with the transfer case gasket kit. At least it was when I bought all my parts from Toyota. If you're getting an aftermarket kit, including gasket kit, then all bets are off. You'll just have to see when the kits arrive.

The idler gear o-ring should be included with the t-case rebuild kit. If it doesn't, then any auto parts store should be able to match up your old o-ring.

I don't think the shifters are interchangeable. If I remember right the end in the tranny is shaped differently in the 5 speed.

Just called the local Toyota dealership and they don't know which oiler nipple I am talking about. When I said H55 5 speed t ransmission, they said they had no idea which oiler nipple I should use.

The dealership in California where I ordered it, says he thinks the tranny comes with the oiler nipple, oil pipe, and bushing so you can use your old shifter. but he is not absolutelysure. its not arriving til Friday, and I wanted to put it in this weekend. I am tyring to get all my ducks in a row.

Cruiser-guy, I have had so many people tell me you can use your old shifter (if you bend it), that I believe them.

thanks,

but the plastic bushing that allows you to use your old shifter, that comes with the H55 right? or does it only come with the cruiser if the dealer puts it in there (like the oiler nipple)?

The plastic bushing that goes on the end of your shifter will not come with the new transmission. Just use your old one unless it's badly worn. The shifter seat does come with the new transmission.

Unless Toyota is now including the oiler nipple (The OEM word for it is receiver pipe), then I bet you need to order it. This piece is actually a part of the transfer case, not the transmission. It snaps in a recessed part of the back of the transfer case.

You better look at these pictures and have your mechanic familiarize himself if you, or he, is in any doubt. http://store.yahoo.com/coolfj40/tran5speed.html

so I can get a "receiver pipe" (oiler nipple) for a 4 speed FJ60 transmission? and use that? because no on has H55 transmissions listed in their parts catalogs.

and I should get a new bushing for my stock shifter? just in case it is worn?

and can I use a new transmission output shaft seal that was originally intended for the 4speed stock tranny?

I am getting a T-case rebuild kit from Cruiseroutfitters.net, so most of my seals and gaskets will come in that kit, but I don't think the tranny output seal would come with it, would it? I will call them but they are very hard to get a hold of.

There's no such thing as a 4 speed oiler nipple. You need to call a reputable dealer, as your dealer doesn't evidently know what to order.

I am confused. the receiver pipe, or oiler nipple, goes onto my transfer case, according to the instructions here:

http://www.off-road.com/tlc/tech/h55fswap/part2.html

so what changes with my transfer case that it needs this part?

why do you say that there is no 4 speed oiler nipple/reciever pipe? when it goes on the transfer case?

o ring is 90301-34005 and normally fits auto transmissions and 1990 and later manual and auto. I won't rebuild w/o it along with the proper seal 90316-48003

33124-36010 is oiler cup

33530-60220 is shifter and lists for $134 +/-. H55 shifters use a ball while 4speeds use a blade to shift the top plate. You are using a new transmission, don't cut yourself short for not buying the right lever.

Actually, your dealer does have H55F in his parts catalog, because there is one parts catalog for North American 60 series. The dealer just isn't knowledgeable enough.

And that is why we can easily get H55 in this country, because Toyota does not make a distinction between USA and Non-US parts. They make the distinction between TMNA (Toyota Motors North America) parts and other markets. H55 is in the TMNA parts catalog because it was sold in North America (canada specifically) from '83 to '87.

The oiler cup pops into the T-case and dribbles oil into the 5th gear which is now located immediately in front of it.
There's no oiler cup in 4-speed transfer cases, because there's nothing but empty space for it to oil.

The o-rings for the idler SHAFT come in the t-case rebuild kit, there are 2 one for each end. So will the Oring that goes on the input shaft in the automatics. Just don't use it.

I would reccomend you buy the new shifter. I too have heard rumors of a plastic adapter for the bottom of the stock shifter, but I've never seen one.

Don't forget about plugging the one bolt hole in the front plate of the t-case.

I would also reccomend new motor mounts, especially front left and rear.

Here are some pics of the plug and one of the oiler cup.
