Hey you never know. But luckily my local dealer was able to source all 7 lines I need plus the broken hard line, will be in tomorrow. It's a last-minute thrash, but I'll make it.

Just a heads up to anyone coming east to west through Colorado.

I-70 through Glenwood Canyon has been closed several times so far this summer due to heavy rain and mudslides from last year’s burn scar in the canyon. You may not encounter any issues traveling I-70, but be sure to check the weather and the CDOT website because the detour in place takes you up through Steamboat and adds 4-5 hours of travel time depending on the day/traffic. If you want to avoid any potential issues, you can exit onto US-24 at Copper Mountain and head south through Leadville and Buena Vista and then head west on US-50 toward Montrose.

Also, if anyone is planning to take 285, it will be closed due to some bridge work just south of Fairplay, depending on when you come through. There’s a detour that takes you CO-9 to US-24 and only adds 10 or so minutes to the travel time, so no big deal. Again, check CDOT website for full details.

No real-time information, but when Kay and I passed through earlier this year they were adding a passing lane to a steep grade about 25 miles west of Gunnison, where US 50 crosses Pine Creek (just beyond the dam at Blue Mesa Reservoir).

Looks like a mess if you are trying to get thru that area Mon-Fri (road completely closed for essentially most of the workday except for a small window around noon). But apparently open for 2-way traffic on the weekends.

So what’s the schedule of events Monday?

We were planning on leaving Friday and spending Saturday and Sunday in Canyons of the Ancients …. But now we have to push back a day and leave Saturday. I’d really like two days down there, which puts us into Ouray Tuesday. We can cut short the trip to the SW though - just assessing our options.

Also: it’s been VERY wet in the San Juans and there’s potential for slides on the trails. I think I saw Engineer was closed for some time yesterday. FYI

We have coffee pot brewing every morning and a generator if you want to charge a phone or radio. This is the time people usually talk about the days activities. No real schedule except for Wednesday evening when we do our group photo and have our raffle. Arrive and leave at your leisure hence the loose, laid back o that we all enjoy on vacation. See you guys when you get there. Come check in and introduce yourselves.

Highway 50 is open starting ~5:30 on fridays to 8:30 Monday morning. After that, it is single lane with traffic stopping for long periods of time, then short breaks to let people through. Big PITA. You can always take 92 at the dam and go out through Crawford and Hotchkiss, but it is really windy and slow, especially if there is traffic. It is a beautiful drive though, as you are on the opposite side of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Would really recomend the drive if you have time.

i highly recommend stony pass. Ran it 3 times last year. great way to come into the area. You'd have to backtrack south a bit from your cruiser parts stop.

That's the route the Texas convoy took on the way to the first SAS. Kay and I met the convoy in Taos and Jim (@NMC_EXP) and Mary met up with us in Monte Vista. We all had a good time the next day on our way over the pass. Except for Bill's (@cornboy) eggs.

Years ago I took Cottonwood Pass from Beuna Vista, past Taylor Reservoir, to Hwy 135 (it drops you between Created Butte and Gunnison). recall that being a really mild/maintained dirt road the whole way with a fair amount of sightseers and 2wd, low clearance cars. It runs parallel to, but north of, Hwy 50 (Monarch Pass). Another option.

We drove up to Cottonwood last year. It is now a very nicely paved road that has been banked just right in many places. I'd love to take a boosted sports car up it. The view at the top is well worth the drive.

Also an offer: If anyone breaks reach out, I have access to 2 shops one fab focused and the other more mechanic focused. My truck also has an onboard welder. I still have a handful of 8" axle parts laying around. 8" 3rd. Couple of driveshafts.

All the trails here are mild. But it's still possible to ding a driveshaft and ruin a weekend. Or have some fatigued steel finally let go.
