I need to replace the stock bump stops on my 60. I need to lengthen them a little now that I'm running 38" Swampers and since my suspension is so soft I'd like to get softer bumps to help with the slam that can happen if I compress the suspension with too much vigor! I'm not keen on spending big bucks on hydraulic bump stops. Anyone using something that takes the edge off the hard compression slams?

I use the Ruffstuff ones and they are doing well taking the abuse of all the weight I run in my truck when I slam down on them. Many brands make them.

Three different sizes and you'll need to do a little fab work as they use a single bolt in the center rather than our stock 2 captive nuts.

Simply watching this out of curiosity. Yesterday’s mini trail ride my ass end was slamming down on rocks, or so it felt, multiple times over and over. Up one just and down job st to roll up another, rinse, repeat. Funny I once took a wheeling class years ago and opted to drive a 60 since I had one (I always considered too rusty to wheel) so I’d know how it felt. Those hard slams came right back from that weekend of OEX.

This is an older shot before I modified a little bit you get the idea.

you can " adjust " them .. they are simple

Curious to see them mounted.
Is this reasonable? "Inserts are good for 5,000 cycles"
Don't want to spend $400 on bumpstops....

I like the ones Randy posted but I don’t get what I’m seeing in his picture. Isn’t the stop supposed to be ‘open’ on one side so when the truck comes down off something the stop acts like a cushion? What’s the pinkish metal part (simple curiosity cuz I can’t figure it out, Photo is too close)!and then the L shaped bracket the stop is attached to? Or is the stop open but on the upper side and not the lower? That opposite from the 60 right?

Why not get a set of Air bumps and go from there.

That'll be as adjustable as you want.

NeverGiveUpYota,
I can take some different pictures that are a bit more clear but that was the one I had on my phone at the time. The pink bar is an extended sway bar where a pin can be pulled out for wheeling on moderate trails. For extreme rocks they get removed all the way.

I have Ruffstuff U-Bolt plates on top of my leaf springs and I welded a piece of U Channel Steel to the top of it. The U Channel is tall enough to allow the bump stop to reach the frame when bottoming out.

Too expen$ive...? I'm not running Baja, this is just meant to be an improvement over 30+ year old stock rubber bumps...

5 times as expensive as urethane bump stops....

Very true, just another option. I love mine.

I got these SumoSprings and put them on the front of my 60. They are about 5" long. At half
compression they are rated at absorbing 1000 lbs. They are advertised as load assist springs.
So to be used in place of airbags for heavy loading. I didn't think they'd work so put airbags on the
back. But was intrigued enough to put them up front as a kind of 'dive compensation'. I thought
they might help out in place of my freshly removed sway bar. They didn't. The sway bar is going
back on.
A competitor on the King of the Hammers put a set on his buggy, said they really improved the
absorbsion of heavy bumps. Gave them a good grade.
They mount easy under the u bolts.

got them mounted in Tencha .. will snaps some pics to post here.

In the $100 realm there really is the poly bumpstops that Randy has. They are functional and a good solid replacement for a factory bump. Everything else essentially kicks you into the $200 plus category (air bumps, the contained bumps that Techna has, Sumo/Timbren, etc). If price is your main concern, get the Prothane/daystar bumps and call it good.
