Soft bump stops?

Thats fancy !! Here's what I did...Just a different idea....

So I guess regardless of which side the bump stop is mounted, when twisted up it is going to hit at the angle the axle is... angled. Top mounted at least it'll still hit (mostly) centered on the axle side....

@Mace ... see, now that you point that out.... DOH!

@Randy88FJ62 and @cruiserpilot ... do you get really twisted up (I do a good amount when rock crawling) and if so have you dealt with the offset issue in any way?

I jacked the front of my truck up on the driver's front axle until all three tires were off the ground to find out where my rear bump stops needed to be. I forget the exact number but my rears had to be in-boarded about 2 inches to ht properly.

I think this is what you are asking by being twisted up. I also do a fair bit of rock crawling and so far all is lining up well.

Gotta measure new vs old to get a handle on what to expect from this all.... Might be able to get out on the rocks at the Coal Mine Cruiser Classic next week.

The change from stock is about 2" less travel to the point the bumpstop touches. In stock form that's about it because the rubber is soild. With these new "perforated" bump stops there should be some additional compression.
I had wanted to reduce uptravel by about inch to help limit tire rub... We shall see the next time I'm out.

Looks nice. Way cleaner work than what I put together.

Old thread resurrection ... @woytovich how have these worked out for you?

Truck has been sold. I had some issues with the rubber part tearing off of the metal base.... but otherwise I guess this worked out ok.
So just beat the crap out of them and replace as necessary? I think we both have shackle reversals and I’m about to do the U-bolt flip kit so the application is similar.

I guess I wasn't totally happy with the solution. I never felt like I quite had the modification dialed in. Nothing wrong with it in the bump stops worked but I feel like the setup could have been better.

Mine feels like it’s getting close to dialed. Steers & tracks, flexes like crazy on the trail, comfortable on the road. I just need the final geometry dialed in to prevent rub … oh and the u-bolt flip kit is on its way. I cracked a lower leaf plate about a month ago so I’m kind of done with the 1/8” steel stuff. I don’t really think I even go that hard haha.

I got these SumoSprings and put them on the front of my 60. They are about 5" long. At half
compression they are rated at absorbing 1000 lbs. They are advertised as load assist springs.
So to be used in place of airbags for heavy loading. I didn't think they'd work so put airbags on the
back. But was intrigued enough to put them up front as a kind of 'dive compensation'. I thought
they might help out in place of my freshly removed sway bar. They didn't. The sway bar is going
back on.
A competitor on the King of the Hammers put a set on his buggy, said they really improved the
absorbsion of heavy bumps. Gave them a good grade.
They mount easy under the u bolts.

I know it’s been a while but how did the sumos work out for you. Do you remember which ones you ordered?

Yes, I got the Blue ones. Sorry, if that sounds like same answer your wife gave you! LOL!
But Sumo has a colour code for absorption / load amounts. I think the Blue ones were 1500lbs. The black were 2000 lbs etc.
I found them sitting on a shelf at the spring place and got them on spec. So there wasn’t another choice, I didn’t really think it out. I know a Tundra guy went with Black. I think the blue in the end would have been my choice.

I'll throw my setup in here. I needed longer bumps to keep the high steer arms off of the frame so I made these adapters to use the factory frame mounts with the large Daystar bumpstops. The way I have them setup looks like they are too low at first glance, but they compress a lot before stopping, so much so that it took two iterations of adapters to get the length correct for my setup. They are very mellow on hard hits, I've been very happy with them.

Special Note: I have recognized that one opinion that effected my purchase of SumoSprings is that one
'King of the Hammers' competitor runs Sumo's exclusively. I'm fairly certain they are quite popular within
the competitors. They are a non-maintenance inexpensive and long term durable option when there are many
other things to maintain and this does reduce time and money. I'm just adding this as it's another place
to research as people make the decision as to which way to go.
I'm certain I'd be disappointed if I had these in the back of my 60, because they wait until springs compress
and load up, as my airbags are already reducing sag and keeping the handling at premium angles before
things get out of hand.
