For sale is a rare 1972 FJ40 Factory Soft Top, Capri Blue, completely bone stock. Original paint, original single F engine with all original components, original white soft top with hoop set, original canvas doors that came with the FST, rare/impossible to find canvas door straps, original vintage Warn winch and jack. Modification/changes include rebuilt engine (900 miles on the rebuild), disc brakes in front, upholstery, front seat belts and new clutch. Carb was rebuilt by Mark at Mark's Off Road.

I'm the third owner and it's been in California the entire time all but a few years in Arizona. Body and frame are straight and the surface rust is not an issue and is indicative of a truck from a dry climate. Issues are a small leak from the rear main seal and a oil pan gasket leak. Carb could use a tuning up but this truck has no issues driving 55-60 mph and cruises nicely. No temp issues at all, runs nice and cool.

This '72 FJ40 FST is the total beach cruiser. Expect to get thumbs up and smiles every time you drive it. Not wanting to sell this but life has other ideas, so my loss is your gain. Asking 28K or OBO, serious offers only.

Looks like a really nice rig! Just a couple of questions that jump out:

1. How is there a rear main seal leak after 900 miles on rebuild?

2. Why does the carb need tuning after Marks off road just worked on it?

The issue with the rear main seal leak is that the guy that did the rebuild had my truck for a LONG LONG time and I'm not sending it back to him to get it fixed. I would be taking care of it myself but with my current situation, I don't have the resources. Most people would have just replaced this engine with a 2F but I wanted to keep this truck numbers matching. The engine seems to be running fine, no temp or compression issues detected, just the leak.

With the carb, there's a minor flat spot in acceleration (not a big issue, I posted about this previously here) and my mechanic (not same guy as did the rebuild) said the carb needed to be rebuilt. I don't believe him on this because I know that Mark is the best out there, period. I'm semi local to him and going to be reaching out to @65swb45 to see if he can help me resolve it this week.

Very much appreciate the reply! Thank you!

Sweet baby Jesus! I love this thing but I’m not in a position to pull the trigger. GLWS.

This is an awesome FST. A couple questions:

Do you have the original jack, jack rods, clips and tool bag? I couldn’t see them because the spare was in the waj

When you say leak, how much.

Size comparison
Drip
Marble
Golf ball
Baseball
Softball
Volleyball
Basketball

I really, really like this rig. I’m steppin’ up
Thanks
