Ok guys, I've been web wheeling now for the last 3yrs since I was separated from my rig... But that day is soon to come to and end. So I figured it was time for me to share some stuff on the board once again. I've been following Tree-Roots build now for some time, and really wanted to upgrade the headlights ASAP when I got reunited with the rig. I was able to jump and score some Depo clear headlights, but even if thats not you, read on...
So here's what I've found out through ordering and reordering and laying it out on the floor.
1st I grabbed a set of these: Apexcone Raptor HID Kit (35w or 55w): HID Kits, DEPO Lights, BMW Bumpers & Lighting - DDM Tuning
Now for the cost you might get what you pay for... I got this link from Tree's post and he seems happy with them. I'm NOT looking to turn this into a throw and cut off post about the quality of light guys. That can be and has been discussed in great length in other posts. So simply stated it is what it is.
Now for the the cool part....
For those with standard lights, just order and install, heck the price is right. (may not be legal)
For us with the DEPO's, here's what you can do. The DEPO's are H4 and H1's hence we have an issue with our harness being 9005/ 9006's. These HID kit's have ballast's that are plug and play to 9005 / 9006's!!!
Meaning order your H4's and H1 kits, and just cut the H4/ H1 harness that converts it over to 9005/9006 and your done! See HID's all have the same plug's, at least these do. So no matter the bulb same plug. The bulbs plug to the ballast universal, the ballast is set to accept 9005/ 9006 already, just plug your 9005/9006 plug that used to go to your bulbs into the ballast and your done.
I came to this resolution after ordering a 9006 kit, thinking I could retro the light to accept the 9006 bulb. Then I ordered H4 bulbs and saw the connectors are the same. So i thought I'd have to part together kits to make a H4 / H1 into 9005 /9006 hybrid kit... Just not the case as these ballast are 9006 ballasts no matter the bulbs in the kit.
I hope this makes sense, here are a few pictures to illustrate. Again this may not be the best pattern or even a legal light spread. Take it as you may, use at your won risk. Just thought I'd share. Heck I've had plenty of Harbor Freight tools over the years... They work till they break... But the cost is right at the time!
