Where did you got the shackle things or whatever they are called???:hhmm:

Those are OZ shackles... They have some crazy rating on them, snatched those up at an off-road expo on Pomona CA a few years back... Only problem is people like to take them, had once stolen in IL on my cross country trip...

Here are some updated pic if you didn't see my carnage posted over here:

Yeah, the lights, the bumper, and everything is working to make the truck look, well... mean!

Thanks Mot... Ahhhh that's what I was going for!

What's the general consensus on bulb color? I have Depos, and I'd like to get bulbs where you can tell they're HIDs, but in no way do I want to look like a ricer..............Any suggestions?

4300-4500k will look like oem.

Mine were supposed to be 4500k but they look like 6k. 6k is a hint of blue.

I would not go over 6k.

JMO, but I would be willing to go up to 6k at the very highest, but would rather stay with 4500-ish...

5K is shown above in my pic 35W, about as blue as i would go. Depo's with painted shrouds 6K 55W highs

Ahhh, the drive back to the west has begun (or has it already ended?). It has been a while since I've seen a pic of that ohh too familiar 80 it's awesome. As though it was just yesterday we were all on OME's w/ Way too many spring spacers and 33's/35's (nostalgic tear)!

RUBITHON...I think you are about the same distance north of the Con as I am South. Tag up with the metal tech guys, Vancouver guys (FJ60s with 4BTs SICK rigs) and make it down brother.

HOLY Sh*T and i just saw the hub sep. link!

NOthing like a little hub separation to get the heart going...glad you and the rig are okay. Give a shout if you need something from So Cal bro. Fix her and drive straight to the trail head!

But the cutoff on the oem lights is going to be pretty bad and will probably blind oncoming traffic.

I am considering doing these on my stock head lights. Anyone know if these actually do blind oncoming traffic? How does the construction of the DEPO's reflector differ from the stock reflector? I know your advise is well intended to safe guard other drivers but I am looking for actual results and not personal speculation. I might have to be the guinea pig for everyone else if no one has done this on stock lights.

Tare,

Long time man! Do It... the price is right.... why not try it?

I would add this tho there are 2 kits avail.. the Apex kit and the DDM kit. I went Apex on the lows 35w. But I just received the DDM 50W kit for my highs... The DDM ballasts are much nicer in my opinion... I would opt that route, a few more bucks but looks like a nicer ballast. DDM 35w or 50w in my opinion.

HID Kits: HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning

DDM kit:

DDM HID Kit Slim Ballast (35W or 55W): HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning

Also as Tree pointed out in his thread the pos and neg to the light harness seem to be reverse, i had to cut and flip them before plugging them into the ballast. Not sure yet about the DDM one as my rig is stranded in Boise for a bit.

Report back!

Matt you are correct, the price is right! I will do it anyway, just wanted to know if anyone had done it yet. Also DDM has a store in Huntington Beach. So I can go down there and get everything I need ask a few more questions and save a few bucks on shipping. I was looking at the slim ballasts too. I spoke to the guys a DDM about the different ballasts. They said there was no difference in quality just size. I will check them out in the store. I think for the extra 10 bucks it’s worth it if they are better quality.

I am going to do the 35w 9006 for the lows in the 4500 temp, the 55w 9005 for the highs in the 4500 temp, and some 55w H1 in the 4500 temp for my Hella 4000s. I will take some before and after shots for everyone.

Saw the thread about the rig. Sorry to hear about that, it could have been much worse, you are a very lucky man.

Ammo,

How hard was it to pull the depo casing's apart and paint them? How did you put them back together?

I'm tossing up either getting some depo's and blacking them to match the rest of the front(similar to yours actually) or getting a pair of the black projector(a little ricer) housings.

:)

Don't get the black projector housings because they are crappy!

If you have the $$$ for getting good HID (bi-xenon) projectors, then do it right the first time and you would be much happier!

Taking the lense and the housing apart is fairly simple as many have done it for various vehicles. You can search the Net and it'll tell you to use the oven or heating gun to do it. You put them back together the same way.

Anyway, good luck!!
