But the cutoff on the oem lights is going to be pretty bad and will probably blind oncoming traffic.

Sorry for such a dumb question. But when you say cutoff what exactly does that mean?

this is a hid kit in a housing made for halogens

this is a true hid setup with oem hid projectors

notice how there is no stray light above the cutoff.

Depo lights do take hids better than most halogen housings.

Ahhh I see

How do you think they would do in those projector style headlights??

Since Depos are hard to come by.

Don't get them. It will not be worth your money. I would just retrofit fx or tsx projectors if i were you. I'm going through that pain as we speak.

The projector route is where i want to go, just finding that cash for that isn't around right now... Especially since there are so many other things much more necessary to do now that I live in the NW... :-)

Actually, my set of projector lights came in the mail yesterday and my two sets of HID's (55w 4500K H1) will be arriving today. If all goes as planned, they will be installed this evening and I will post pics when done. After removing them from the shipping boxes for inspection, I was caught off guard because the light assemblies look nicer than I expected. They might not be as nice as the TSX projectors, but they will perform better than reflector lens technology for proper light dispersion/projection. Of course, anything will be better than the oem lights.

Are you retro'ing your own in? Or did you get some pre-maid? Lots off good info out there on the retro process and good sights to get parts to do it. Just from everything I've read a good projector and HID kit will set you back around 500 bucks, then comes the fun of cutting and mounting and making it all look pretty. Someday, but for now I'm going this route. The second pic is not HID but LED city's that I retro'd in while i had them open... Kinda hard to take a pic of the HID's but the light is very clean, not sure about the throw yet will have to check that next week.

I was thinking about painting my lights like that. Can't wait to see what they look like on the truck.

I ordered the typical Sonar headlights you see on Ebay that already have the projector beams designed/built-in to them. Some vendors go ahead an pre-install a set of HID's, but I opted for the base model without the HID's since they did not offer the color temperature I wanted. So, I ordered my HID kits from DDM and will install them myself. I will use the projectors that came with the lights and see how they turn out in terms of light projection. If they are adequate, then I will leave them alone. If not, then I will do a projector upgrade with a TSX projector.

I thought about the Depot lights since the look more OEM, but using reflector beam technology with HID's is really not the way to go if you have a choice. I am not sure about having Angel Eyes on my 80 since I have them on my BMW, but I really had no choice with this particular model.

Welcome back Matt...so is the truck with you in OR, or are you in NJ?

Ya man, they are a pain to get into, but once you've done them twice like me... and now maybe a 3rd... Doh... (Forgot to put the defusers back in) but its pretty easy just two bad I went to town with silicone.

I found 225F at 8 mins in the oven works good times 3 passes... 225F 8mins, pull it out make a pass or two with the butter knife, back in the oven for another 8mins... By the third pass they pull right off the bone!
