Trading in my ‘13 Lexus LX, I had all the usual problems radiator replacement, valley leak and all components related to the fixes. It was starting to get a few rattles at 160,000 miles. It was a good truck but now I am not interested in AHC or head gasket repairs. This is a great form and I appreciate all the advice and discussions. Getting a 2024 QX80 sensory with 6500 miles for $30,000 off sticker, I want the last of the V8’s…..Cheers!!

Having done a lot of research on them I'm not sure a qx80 is going to be a step up in reliability but they are going for really cheap. Keep a close eye on the rear air suspension. Also how much time do you spend off pavement ? If it's very little to bone the y62 does make a stronger case. Let us know how it goes in the future!

I love the Armada/Qx80. Great of the last V8 before they switch to the TT V6 in the new model.

No off reading at all except WI winters, wife’s car, air suspension will take a at or around 100,000 miles…having it undercoated will help extend the life. Have a buddy with 330,000 miles on a qx56 has never opened up the engine

I always enjoy getting reviews of people who switch away from our platform.
And I don’t mean just the “I regret it” type of reviews. I just think it’s good to get people’s honest opinions.

While I plan on keeping my LC indefinitely, I like to have a plan B for what vehicle to get next if I have to.
And with the neutering of the new Land cruisers, I’m not sure if that’s still the best platform for me.

My Lexus certainly didn’t give trouble free miles, one reason for trading is that I drive long distances and I was losing confidence in the LX….so in my world….You gone!

That depends. If your top priority is reliability (clearly OP seems disappointed here) and ease of DIY maintainability over the long term, it certainly can be. And it puts a ton of cash in your pocket too.

Unless you think factory supplied defective radiators, valley plate leaks, cam tower leaks, leaking water pump, chain tensioner issues, etc, and now reports of unexplainable HG failures in higher mileage rigs (with aluminum blocks increasingly prone to warpage) are just part of the norm with owning a Land Cruiser - let alone a Toyota.

Eh, but then you add age to the other vehicle, which in itself can affect reliability.

I think the issues on 200 are way overblown. A new rad is $240 and a one banana job. I just proactively replaced mine last weekend and it took 30 mins at most. Sure, a valley plate and water pump are a little more involved, but they're not difficult at all. Did them proactively on my LS460 and it only took an afternoon.. and I wasn't exactly sober.

I don't even spend that much per year on fuel, much less maintenance. Bought at 38,000km, six years ago. Now sitting at 126,000km. Just under 15,000km per year. Ballpark 16L / 100km, that's 150 * 16 = 2400L of fuel per year. At $1.80 CAD / L, that's $4320 in fuel per year.

Oil change every ~8 months, ~$120 CAD.
Front pads + rotors, every ~2-3 years: $500 CAD.
Alignment every couple years: $170 CAD.
New battery every 3-4 years: $120 CAD.
Add a set of tires every 4-7 years.

Water pump was replaced under warranty. Fuel pump recall done at Lexus' cost. Radiator looks fine. No issues what so ever.

I paid out of pocket to replace a squeaky belt some ~3-4 years ago; a few hundred bucks. Outside of the dealer-caused, dealer-fixed, dealer-paid-for AHC fiasco, that was the only unexpected repair in my ownership. I can't predict what it'll be like at 500,000km, but in the 6 years I've owned it, the LX has been perfectly reliable with very minimal maintenance costs.
