That depends. If your top priority is reliability (clearly OP seems disappointed here) and ease of DIY maintainability over the long term, it certainly can be. And it puts a ton of cash in your pocket too.

Unless you think factory supplied defective radiators, valley plate leaks, cam tower leaks, leaking water pump, chain tensioner issues, etc, and now reports of unexplainable HG failures in higher mileage rigs (with aluminum blocks increasingly prone to warpage) are just part of the norm with owning a Land Cruiser - let alone a Toyota.
I’ve owned 7 200s over the last 16 years between multiple drivers. Zero issues.

But I’m sure you know. 100 is definitely a better rig.

Ridiculous comment.

7 200s. 16 years. 0 issues. Roger that.

Anyways, yeah, the 4.7L 2UZ is objectively a more reliable powertrain. And if you don't know, now ya know....

I came very close, as we had many Nissan Patrols (real ones in the past).

But ultimately I didn't, due to my elitist attitude that American Armadas are not Real Patrols :D and I am not buying anything built in Tennessee
What’s built in TN?

So you have an average of 2 years of ownership for each. Of course you have encountered zero issues! Heck, you were still under factory warranty for them! :D

That's is not exactly a ringing endorsement! A Yugo could make the same claim!

OP @Lou Gill , sorry to hear that you had so much issues. My 2013 LC has been taken care of by the previous owner and I, so the radiator, timing fix, cams, and valley happened to her but she pours really good, but completely understand your disappointment, and where you are coming from. I wish you the best of luck, Infinities are amazing cars too, I had a G35 but sold it, and even tried to get the same car back but buyer did not sell to me, he was really happy. That Q is not exactly what i need, otherwise I'd have been looking at one, Nissan egines are amazing ! That V8 must be puff ! With the new Armada coming with the Pro-4X , it is a great possibility. The Patrols are amazing with the 4x4 stuff !

@ryanCA I don't understand the comments about Armadas done in USA, I quickly searched and the Armadas I saw carry a J VIN which means Japan made, no? What am I missing ? Cheers !

That is of course assuming he did not own multiple of them concurrently and/or did not buy them with already 500k miles on the clock 😉

Different schools of thought, OP would prefer to have something newer, better tech and less down time for more $

most on here prefer a well depreciated 200 and spend a $ each year on maintenance vs depreciation and initial cost of a newer rig.

That’s why I prefer my 2013 LX to a 250/ 550- spending an additional ~$35k on top of my LX is not worth it to me for better mpg and tech. For my stage of life with 2 toddlers, the next car is a truck or suburban- we need space. For now the LX does great and can’t beat the value. YMMV

No wrong decisions just different ways of doing things.

My bad, I was really only looking for Japanese trucks, I think the American made SUVs are disposable and way over priced. Lexus really disappointed me with LX, GX and Land Cruiser on the same frame….i hope I made a decent decision, it’s a good looking rig.

i just want to put out the deal I managed for this new QX80, list $92,000, bought for $62,000, with 6700 miles and my Lexus trade in was $22,000…full warranty for 75,000 miles, 4 free oil and tire rotations. I think, I did OK

Congrats again! Excellent deal

I am with you on looking for Japanese made too 👍🏽

I wish the OP the best of luck and hope they enjoy the vehicle. That said, drove one (rental) for a week last month on a trip to KC - wasn't impressed by transmission nor many of the convenience/luxury features that "kinda" worked. Given it was a rental, but had A LOT of problems for a vehicle with only 15k miles on it. Just my 2 cents, YMMV ;)

I don’t understand the comments about domestic trucks/ suvs being disposable when people are ditching their 200s for newer cars- what’s the difference at that point but a suburban / Denali - they’ll last 10-15 years just fine.

There's "last", and there's last.

I've been a passenger in plenty of near-new (anywhere from 1 to 5 year old) domestic vehicles. Cadillac sedans, Tahoe SUVs, etc. All had rattling interiors to the point of driving me nuts even as a passenger. The Tahoe's ride was so rough, I feared I'd need a chiropractor by the time I stepped out of it. Then there's my neighbour's 1-ton, diesel GMC Sierra truck (2020~ish model), which seems to need a new sensor every week, and his own stories of previously owning Fords, and having Ford discontinue OEM parts when the vehicle was 4-5 years old. LOL!

Clearly the domestics are a fine vehicle choice for many, many people, but I wouldn't have one as a daily. If money were no concern I'd maybe have a 1-ton diesel purely as a trailer hauling, long-distance family camping vehicle. Maybe.

I drive one of the most unreliable car (2023 F150 Powerboost with 7.2kW generator) daily. At 40k miles currently after just over a year old. Not a single issue…in fact, my 2019 LC had MORE issue (LC had major infotainement failure at 27k miles) and more rattles than my Ford. Go figure. And yeah, i like driving my Ford a lot more than LC. Ford is quieter. Driving comfort is way more comfortable. And the self-driving on highway is just gamechanger for fatigue at end of the drive to and from work.

Now, maybe my Ford will fall apart at 41k miles…….that is always a possibility! :D

Gm lays off 2000 for the second time this year ford lays off 4000 and Stellantis is halting production and laying off workers I guess everyone is going out out of business!!!
Yeah but none of them have an exec saying that they have cash flow for only 12-14 months.....

Remember, GM and Ford have much bigger operations I think...so it is all relative.
