Yeah I'll be there.

Also found out I can still get a key made. Since they had lost it.

Another tidbit of info. After looking at the title which was done in november of 83 it had 70k on the odometer. The tag on the back last states it was registered in 85. It now shows 87k. I originally thought it might have rolled ove and have 187k. Now I'm thinking it is 87 original miles.

Got the tailgate glass down after removing the regulator. The PO had a new handle in the box waiting for me to install. It was nice to get the tailgate down. This will make a great seat.

Progress looks good Marshall!!

Sounds good.

Yead the rust is confined to 3 places about 8 inches square. I would just cut it out and weld in new sheetmetal. But I might just treat the area and glass them over. Then I'll never have to worry about them rusting again.

As soon as I get it running well I'll do a better job at cleaning underneath it and then spray all the underbody and inside of the doors with rust bullets. That should stop most of the rust.

Well JP stopped by to see the cruiser. I had been working on the front grill. That wasn't very exciting so I asked him if he wanted to see if the pig would start. Put new plugs in installed the coil out of my cruiser. Which is getting electronic dist anyway. Cleaned the points. CHeck for voltage and spark. Poured some gas in the carb.

AND the pig started right up!

Thats right. Right up.

Oil pressure came up to normal, and temp also. Now all I have to do is clean the gas tank out.

Thanks JP.

I honestly could not believe it............... 20 years of sitting and BAM came right to life and ran perfect, I mean we didn't even clean the carb. it was dusty as hell :D

you scored big on this one marshall, you def. have the good cruiser karma

i think JPs got the cruiser touch right now... my cruiser had stopped working, jp came over saturday and he got it running in like 2 minutes... and nothing else broke... thats a JP miracle

So Gundy is the Wizard of Oz! Ok David, I want a FJ62, gray, preferably an 89, sitting in someone's garage for the last 10 years, who thinks its a "jeep," and $600 sounds just about right. Make it so No. 1!

Marshall, please don't tell me those are the previously flat tires . . . my soul could not take that.

David Davis

Marshall, did you use anythign special on the paint to bring it back? I am thinking I will need to do the same with the bel air I just bought.

Update:

Now have a set of keys for the cruiser. Dropped the gas tank last night. Not good new:frown:. Gas tank is really rusty on the inside. Sender was a pile of rust. Beat on it and got about 2 lbs of dried up gas and rust out of it. Since I cannot locate a good tank I'm taking it to Agusta rd Raidiator shop and having them boil and line it for around $200. Then I will glass the bottom and paint it zinc just to be sure. What a bummer. I'm pushing my 400$ mark on budget. Hope this is the last thing wrong. I'd like to have it at the anual meeting.

Good Luck Marshall my gas tank looked solid but I took it to have it boiled and lined and it turned out to be a piece of swiss cheese. Hope that isn't the case with yours. Might be a fuel cell in your future. Or an IPO long range tank.

Update:

Yesterday I took the gas tank out. My fears were valid. 15 years of dried up gas in the bottom. Lots of stuff and rust. Took tank today to be boiled and lined. Only slight surface rust on the outside. Radiator guy said he has seen worse.

Today installed the tailgate regulator gear. Put it all back together and bingo. Window rolls up and down with the key and the switch up front. Amazing.

Got to see the sweet piggy today myself...and what a beautiful cruiser.....I mean it is amazing to think that it was stored for 15 years and no one ever knew what they really had. Awesome Pig!

The piggy moves! Finally got the new clutch slave and master in. Bled the lines and the clutch seems to work. Installed a temporary gas tank in the back until I get my other one back. Cleaned all the fuel line out and replaced the fuel filter. Started right up. Idles a little rough but after a few sprays of carb and choke cleaner the piggy purrs or should I say rumbles since there is no muffler. I put it in reverse a moved it back a few feet to check and see if the brakes worked. They did. So tomorrow I bleed them and adjust. And replace some trans and transfer case fluid. Hope to be able to drive it around tomorrow and be able to take it friday to get a new exhaust. Ran it for about 10 minutes and no overheating issues or leaks. Tomorrow will be the test.
