As I have said before, I am in the minority because I don’t like snorkels and didn’t have the need for one where I am.

That being said, my first 70 series had the complete OEM snorkel set up when I bought it and I will say it is a very nice set up. If I had to get one, I would stick with OEM and nothing else.

I agree - only interested on OEM but where to get it? :)

Check out this thread... a lot of applicable info for you.

As much as I hate referring people to them, Partsouq probably has the parts. If not them then for sure Amayama.

It might be worth trying Camelback Toyota first... see if they are parts that North America can order...

I’ve got all the needed part numbers. Your air filter box is going to need modified.

Correct me if I am wrong and it may be NLA but can you get an OEM air can bottom for snorkel equipped 70 series? Would also require a different washer reservoir as well. I believe that is how the FJ73 I had was set up.

try @cruiseroutfit they may have some parts laying around.

that said, a non-snorkel sir can be modified to suit an oem snorkel. It’s a fairly simple process. In the theory one could do it with a drill and jb weld.

There are OEM air cleaner bottoms available for snorkel equipped 70-series... but they are the wide nose version bodies and don't fit directly into our older ones. The OEM snorkel equipped air cleaner bottoms are NLA for the narrow noses. This is, at least, what I turned up in my researching. Like @divemedic, I just modified my existing housing.

The washer reservoir does change. All the parts are readily available for that.

OEM snorkel parts for the narrow nose 70-series trucks... note the Toyota parts system calls it a cool air intake.

And finally, the washer bottle:

Some good relevant info in this thread too. I dig the stainless look and with the right airbox mods the goal of dropping EGT's and feeding your turbo more air is realistic. You can also check out the Torfab Troopy. He made a custom airbox with a relay that switches between the snorkel and separate larger intake lower down. You can flip a switch for more power.

Reviving this old thread. I ordered all the parts, but does anyone have the part # for the snorkel version of the air cleaner box? This would be for the narrow nose 70. HZJ77 to be exact.

food for thought
the wide nose 70 series snorkel works on a narrow nose 70 series, and is internally bigger, sits up flush with the hood height and just looks better, you have to mod the airbox a bit different for the bigger inlet but not a big deal

I don't have the part number, but I got one new from partsouq a couple years back.
Seems like it was around $400 to my door?

Hello,

Part number for a post-1999 model is 17700-66201.

Chances are the part for your model year, 17700-66051, is discontinued.

Hope this helps.

Super helpful. Looks like I need to go aftermarket or modify my current box.

Do snorkels create more noise just outside the driver's window?
That is one thing that is keeping me from installing one.
With my convertible top, the BJ74 at 70mph sounds like driving in a hurricane or maybe a small tornado.

Yes, but dump your exhaust right under the drivers door and you will forget all about that snorkel noise 😂

In all seriousness, my snorkel noises got much louder when i switched from the ram air style to the oem factory style topper.

I was kind of surprised about how much louder it was, obviously more noticeable at slow speeds in town. At idle, you can’t really tell, unleash that 13bt 😆 and she starts talking to you.

I also had to mod my OEM snorkel top as it was too restrictive and causing my butler fly shutoff valve at higher boost/rpm. The fix was taking out a couple of the fins on the botttom. No issues since with higher boost.

There are enough other noises coming from my truck at any type of speed that I've never noticed a snorkel-induced excess. But I'm a petrol engine... and I think diesels get more intake noise.
