On the carb for my 57, I recently started to experience the carb fuel delivery not able to keep up.

Here is the scenario:

Both carb and fuel pump rebuilt in restoration. Probably driven and run for 6 hours since rebuild. All was well.

Now I can hand prime and get 3/4 full. Start it up and it will fun for 10 min or maybe 2 min before the fuel in he sight glass starts to go down.

I tried to gently tap the carb to see if float was sticking (and would drop). Didn't help.

I'm thinking a piece of trash in the jet or float sticking? I know Mark and others are experts here- I did leave message with Mark but know he is busy.

The fuel punp works correct(made sure lines were clear). Base on date code I think it is a 1960 Dec 15 build. (0L15). I also checked on the solenoid and it is getting power on switch and stays on (Amp Meter left on during condition)

If it gets low- I can turn off motor then restart and it will sort of fill up more than it had before.

Anyone experience something similar that I can lean on before opening it up?

If I recall there is a screen above the needle and seat (plug above inlet). Next pop off the top to see if the seat is clear.

It was probably a replacement carb made in 1970 since it has a solenoid. Are you sure your fuel pump is working right? They can sometimes pump some fuel, but not enough.

Good Point @Splangy . I can hand pump it fine and it fills the sight glass. I took off the piping at the fuel pump and had my son crank it for just a second (with rags ready). I was getting fuel for sure. Is there a way to really test that?

I was thinking that, but a thread said the small sight glass ended in 69. I think it is junk in carb as the fuel filter looks dirty.

I ran the tank dry and the restorer did not boil the tank to clean (after I discussed it with him). I may have to take tank off . I hear you can take to radiator shop and they can boil it clean?

Yes you can. I have taken lots of gas tanks to the radiator shop for cleaning and repairs.

Toyota continued to make replacement carburetors for years.

I got the last new small window from Marv 13 years ago, not sure how long it was sitting around.

I had good luck doing an okie rebuild on a carb with some junk in it.

That rig deserves a period-correct blue tag large window carb. Rebuilt, fully detailed, with NOS air cleaner gasket. $800.00

Pretty sure my carb is fine- the fuel pump the current suspect.

What is the date code on that blue tag? Tell me the story on that one? Did you go with a more modeling one?

Could not resist such a beauty. Thanks Mark. It's going on now. Although we found the issue with the fuel (homemade fuel line inlet jet that restricted flow- missed in restoration since it was hidden)- I still wanted the original period correct style carb.

Question for all who are familiar- there is no "Spring" on the carb body linkages throttle for it to return to idle. On the 25's was that spring in the main linkages? Scratching my head....

The spring in the linkage is actually 2 springs, part Y in the photo, You might want to acquire

one of these parts manuals, I am more than happy to look up parts. John

Thanks. What a great resource! That Blue Face looks so bad arse on this thing....tweaking a few more things like hose clamps, etc to get her closer...wire covers, etc.
