Below are pics of my 1962 FJ40 with SM420 tranny that I did 10-15 years ago. The throwout bearing started making noise about a month after the install, but I never got around to doubt much with it. Figured it was time to look at it. Do you all see any issues that I may of overlooked? After getting it all apart, the throwout beating seems ok. Maybe just badly adjusted?? Any chance we I have the wrong bearing?

Your pic's while many aren't that easy to manipulate at least for me.
Noise? Would that be squealing or knocking, is it all the time or only when the clutch pedal is down?
The surface on the adjuster of one of the fingers looks way more abused than the other two. Might make contact with TOB cant, which could lead to squeal or knocking.
Is there any lube on the spines?

The noise I'm getting is when the clutch is not depressed. When I press the clutch in it goes away. I never did adjust much when I added the new clutch assembly and tranny. Now that I know a little better, I guess it's time to make it right.

The throw out bearing is a stock SBC type bearing using a machined down Toyota throw out sleeve. Very common back in the day.
Any VatoZone or Odaley's will have them in stock. You will need to transfer the parts over since most new bearing assemblies are sold as a unit.
78 Chevy C30 with manual transmission is one of the many applications.

Thanks, that should get me going in the right direction.

Looking at your pic, you can see the bearing number.

So i did a web search 45tmk804x, and came up with yoyoparts.com. it's a NTN#. The site has specs/dimensions on the bearing and a ton of crossover, #'s. It references a Toyota L/C #'s too. Skf n1728, bca, federal mogal, carquest and some others as 1773. I didn't think it was gm bearing for a sm420

If you do an internet search you might find it takes about 2.7 qts. I read it on the internet. It's full when it runs out the fill hole.

Nice find. I skipped many of those sites because they were not in the US. I was thinking this was a GM bearing.

Thanks

Robert

Well, I ordered the N1728 and although the dimensions are correct, the profile of the back of of the bearing is slightly raised, causing the moveable portion of the bearing to make contact with the hub. Maybe the 1773 is a better fit?
