Man, you sure put the pressure on! :) I've been laying low, sick for two weeks ( summer cold ) need to get going again.

Never be ashamed of honest effort. I'm in a time of my life, where I can take the time and fuss with every little thing. I've got along way to go, so there's plenty of time for me to screw it up.

I truly enjoy watching everybody take their wagons apart and rebuild them to their own taste and intended use. This is really a great hobby.
 
I started this journey ignorant as all get out in May 2013. Since that time I have everything torn loose on my beast except the body mounts and bushings. I am not restoring like Delancy. I was just trying to get this pig back on the road in stabilized rust free condition. It turns out, there is only one way to stop or slow down the rust on this. You have to disassemble it. So, for what it's worth, it has been fun, but I am ready to drive this thing. I don't want to tinker forever!

I didn't start out restoring, but once the scope of work was revealed just to correct the deterioration, it was all or nothing.

Now the problem is, the 76 is a blank canvas and Ron's work is worthy of plagiarizing, so may be back to square one with it too.

I didn't feel ignorant before embarking on, because I'd spent plenty of time reading all I could about Pigs.....goes to show that there's no education like one you pay for.
 
I had been watching my pig sit in the woods since the late 90's. I didn't even know the model # until I agreed to buy it in April! When Ron is finished is he going to sell that rotisserie?
 
On the Rotisserie,

I really don't like to sell things, I would like to think, I'd be useing it again. Some Mudders would like to borrow it, but shipping it back and forth would really be dumb.

I've got @ $300 in material, without the casters, so building one would be the better solution. That said, I wouldn't mind lending it out, if user would pick up and bring back, it's big and heavy!

Heck I might want to build one. How's yours work for you? Easy to build? And did you ever create a thread for it :hmm:

Since I'm slowly recovering from a cold and feeling like an old man, I haven't done much in the shop. I did some media blasting and getting the window regulaters ready for plating.

I have a question: anybody know about those plastic and rubber rollers. I seem to have both on mine. The black rubber one has an extra cup and spring on it, but the main roller is the same dia. as the white plastic one. Will they both work on a 71.

I've been laying low, trying to get over this cold, but thought I'd update alittle. I've got a couple full boxes at the platers and others at the powder coaters. Been doing alot of media blasting.

Spraying some of the last Monstaliner, I don't want Delancy to feel alone, so I'll post up this.

Transmission Cover:

Botom Side
One coat Zero Rust
Two coats LZ sound deadener
Two coats LZ black ceramic insulation
Two coats Black Monstaliner

Top Side
One coat Zero Rust
Two coats LZ sound deadener
Two coats LZ white ceramic insulation
Two coats Cygnus White Monstaliner

Yeah, I'm not nuts! :) at least it will match the body.

Started running the rest of the brake and clutch lines. Useing the stainless steel gravel guard on all the lines.

Alot Bob, good thing is my wallet keeps getting lighter. Maybe it will balance out. :)
 
In all honesty, not that much. I'm guessing here, but not over two hundred fifty pounds, tops. The heaviest is the sound deadener, it's twice as heavy as the ceramic.

I really don't think it's something to worry about. The results are well worth it. Gives it a nice tight sound. I wish all you could bang on my tailgates, one naked and one sprayed, totally different sound.
 
Ok, I have an admission to make. I have never ridden in or driven any Landcruiser. So, is scrapdaddy over doing it with the sound deadening or are these things really that loud? I am at the stage that I can do something about it if they are.
 
For me personally, outside of my drivetrain being super noisy, I don't hear to much road noise (probably can't hear it over the drivetrain lol) but any time you have the option to add sound deadener (insulation) its a good idea. Keeps it warmer/cooler when needed much easier. Plus you losing the tin sound when you open shut a door must be nice!

Most definitely, over doing just about everything on the SLOW 71. I want it quiet and I don't want hot feet. Mine is being built for cross country traveling.

When I was younger, didn't mind putting up with rattles and discomfort, in fact I liked it. This one is going to be different.

Nature of the beast, you say. Sure it is, but that doesn't mean you can't tame it some.

We'll see next year, when it's running, if I really did over do it. I know one thing, when we're crossing Kansas next Summer and look over at my Wife, she won't be frowning. :)
 
Fantastic build and attention to detail.. I'll be curious to see if the floor coatings block out most of the heat... When I built my Ram Jet 55 and started with two coats of spray on bed liner, the floor was to hot to touch.. So I put down Dynamat then used Second Skin Ceramic, sprayed two coats of sound dampener of the same brand and painted it white... Floor still got warm but by no means affected the inside temperature of the truck... You should be fine but might consider ceramic coating or heat shielding the front section of your exhaust as an added heat inhibitor.. Great Work
