Update from hell!

Buy a full float, the tire will never come off with a broken axle they said. Well, taking my trailer to a welding shop to convert from pintel to 2" ball hitch the 55's driver's side rear tire flew past me with the hub on fire. I skidded down the road into a store's driveway losing sight of the tire on fire. The rear axle was on fire as well, so put it out I ran up the hill looking for the tire, mean while traffic comes to halt and people are yelling for me as they were putting out the fire on the tire. At this point I'm in some kind of disbelief, so a young guy says He'll bring the tire back down to my truck, as I turned around to the truck a group people are all around it putting out another axle fire that started back up. That was the worst of the day. So many people stepped up and helped me throughout the day, I couldn't have gotten this far without them. The guy who put out the axle called a roll back and let me take it to his yard, he builds hotrods. He also took me to the u haul yard to pick up a van, so I can tow home my trailer. The roll back guys knows a hotshot in town and he is hauling the 55 minus a wheel, home. Nobody was hurt, had some body damage and a lot of rear axle carnage.

Right now I don't care what exactly happened, just glad nobody got hurt and I'm headed home in the morning. The 55 will get home Sunday.

On a brighter note, the rollback driver was the same guy who picked me up last week when it first started. One of the guys helping at the accident offered to take me anywhere in town I needed to go. He's a Toyota guy, shows me his arm tattoo of the Toyota symbol. I'm so grateful to all those people going out of their way.

I'm going to relax tonight and head out in the morning for home.

When it rains, it pours! You've had quite a misadventure. Hope they stock some extra Budweiser at the hotel this evening. Assuming you're not sitting on a barstool somewhere already drowing your sorrows. Suspect you're glad you didn't start for home in front wheel drive towing your trailer.
Be careful out there....

Hey Guys, yeah, I'm trying to unwind at the hotel. We all know playing around with vehicles someday it's going to happen, mine was a little worse than some. That tire could of killed somebody, it went flying down the road (on fire) no less. It's a BUD night for sure. I'm rolling out in the morning with the box van and my trailer, only 520 miles to home.

My goodness, Ron. Glad no one was hurt but man, I am bummed about all this drama. Get home safe and take a load off. You might have a bit more tasks for the winter coming.

Glad to see the update buddy! This is Austin the Toyota tattoo guy. I never heard from you so I was hoping someone got you taken care of! Sorry your day became what it was but I’m glad us as a community could get you taken care of. You have such a beautiful 55 and would hope mine could look as good one day. Gotta finally buy one first 😂

Hey Austin,

Thanks so much for the offer today. My head was spinning trying to come up with a plan to get out of that mess. All you guys made it work for me and God willing going for home in the morning. Keep your eye on the 55 classifieds, you'll find the one you want. I have to say again, this town has done nothing but go out their way to help me. I was starting to believe places and people like that have disappeared, you all changed my mind.

I owe you!

My first encounter with jmack 10 years ago was when his right rear tire flew by his wife's head.

Grateful no one has been hurt in any of our encounters that have posted to this site. Its a lot more rough and tumble then meets the eye.

Yes, there are still so many great humans out there that automatically appear when needed.

Safe return Ron

Holly smokes, carnage 😕

As said above glad no one was hurt and your sorted out with a plan.

Hope your trip home goes without drama Scraps. 🤞🏻

Seems like Ron’s adventure has provided a good message to us all. This country is full of great folks willing to help each other. Al the political and religious differences go out the window when someone needs a helping hand. The majority of people in this country are good hearted and value each other. Too bad the “us” and “them” mentality spewed by the media and politicians makes us feel differently.

Made it home tonight with my trailer and the solar panels. The 55 will get here this weekend. I'll post up some pictures tomorrow, but will have to wait for the 55 to get here for that show. I've always felt good about coming home from a trip, anticipating getting back to farm work. This trip was a bit different, never had to leave a vehicle behind. All will work out with time and money, blowing the budget all to hell.

Funny thing about driving a box van home, nobody beeped and waved a thumbs up or started a conversation about vehicles at a gas station. I miss that. :(
