I drove around for weeks in front wheel drive In my 55 one time. Didn’t hurt a thing. Using only one axle in the rear might but undue stress the other,

In the Australian Safari Race 1992 drove a 60 series diesel turbo.
I did drive rough off road over 300 hundred miles one day using only drivers front axel. Pulled all the broken bits out of the rear housing and left the drivers side flop around. Made it back to camp. Put replacement parts in that night finished 5am, was at the start line at 6am finished the final day across the finish line. Once was enough.

Just so I'm clear we can "it could" it to death and for the most part you would be correct if we are talking about how should it be done..
But we are talking about how can we make it home and deal with the carnage later and in that scenario one seldom ponders the "what if" or "it could" and jumps straight into the I hope this works as they swallow the last of the beer....

I’m sticking with my suggestion.
Nobody has to take it.

Can someone tell me the difference between abrasion vs abrasive..

At this point of my trip I'm going to drive whatever there is left working back home and worry about new parts at home. Not to mention I broke another windshield on this trip. Right now I'm trying just to find ride to the shop. Thanks guys for all the input and advice, we'll get it home, one way or the other.

I’m hoping it’s just something like an axle is too short for your new locker and stripped the splines out of a side gear and it will get you home and be an easy fix when you get there.

You have my number, if you need parts I’ll pull them off my pig and next day them to you..

Update, The shop checked to see if the driver's side axle shaft was spinning at the wheel, it is not spinning. So, I'm guessing that means it broke or stripped in the pumpkin. It will drive with the locker on, but I drove it back to the hotel and it was pulling all over the road. I don't think I'm willing to chance driving it 500 miles. As J Mack said, I could pull the front and swap it out, front has arb locker and back is a Harrop electric locker, not sure if any of that would really matter. I'm not really pumped on jacking up the front end, pulling shafts, etc. to do all that in some lot somewhere. So, I'm thinking again on trying to rent a truck with a hitch and tow my trailer home, then come back with my stuff to get the 55. A lot to think about.

Thanks Jim, but it's for an FJ60 width axle a few inches bigger than yours. :) (had to say that). I tried reaching out to Front Range, who built them and can't get a return. I was going to overnight a set through them.

I made mine wider than a stock 55 and I'm happy to see if what I have will work for you.
I'm betting you are going to find the very end of your axle has stripped splines and if we find something in my stash of spares that will work we can get you up and running without much work or money right now.
