It's going to be my winter project, planning on removing my current tub and cleaning up the frame after the 3FE bash in late Oct. Been amassing all the parts I need, hoping to do all or most of the work myself ... we'll see. May farm out the final spray depending on how I feel about the interior and lining job I do :hillbilly: I'm definitely going to shoot the bottom and interior with a color matched liner, and paint the dash and backside of all the panels at a minimum. Will be going with nebula green ;)

What are you planning for the paint and body work?

Have you seen the liner on Dave's 40? Can't remember the name (maybe Raptor), but he did a great job with the application.

What's nebula green? Surely you have a pic worthy of posting. ;)

Nebula Green

Tucker, is this what you're going for?

Or this one, on the left with orange seat covers ;)

Lee, you dont know about nebula green?! shame shame.

I have a 79 tub.

Tub will go to Blast the Past located in Selma/Schertz texas. They came highly recommended by cruiser guys in san antonio. They will blast and prime the tub with PPG for a great price.

I will do the body work myself with the aid of a friend who does paint work and manages a hotrod shop here in austin.

I will probably wind up painting the truck myself. Might let said friend help/supervise, might make a paintbooth down in NB on our property(painters plastic and industrial fans we have lying around. might rent a paintbooth and do it all at once up here in austin.

Those are my loosely laid plans.

Color will be 464 beige, and 031 white, Chassis black for the chassis and front bumper.

I know it well. I was just messin' with Tucker.

If you're a long time reader of the 40 forum, you'll have seen Nebula Green threads appear at regular intervals. It seems to be one of those colors that aren't easy to get right. The pic Tucker posted is the color I'm accustomed to seeing, and it looks good. This guy claims his truck is Nebula Green, and I'm not buyin' it. I also don't like it.

I still prefer Toyota Fashion Green. Has a lot more manly puzzazz IMO...

Fashion green with a brown / saddle top > most combinations

Absolutely agree. Looking at these pics is driving me nuts. I'm having the urge to speed over to Cruiser Corps and tell them to ditch the Freeborn Red and paint my truck Fashion Green. All I need is an extra $5K to get that done. :frown:

Speaking of which, yesterday I spotted a 1980 green beater 40 with a rotted out tub parked in the CC parking lot. I asked what they were doing to it. Mike (CC owner) said it was purchased by a local deep pockets guy, who just authorized a $45K complete frame off restoration. Mike said it'll take them a year to get it done. Based on the 5 months they've had to rebuild my truck, I'd say a frame off will be more like 2 years.

Indeed.

I could never wait on a build like that. I even have to talk myself out of driving my car to whole foods as I am in the midst of my build. Using an alternate tub has really worked out well. I can continue to drive it and work on it while my other parts are off getting ready for paint.

Neither could I. At least yours is driveable during the rebuild. My truck hasn't moved more than 50 feet since March 2nd. :frown:

They're (Cruiser Corps) restoring a RHD BJ40 for a wealthy Okie State alum, using an original Toyota paint color--Pollux Orange. I know they've been working on it for well over a year. The owner says he doesn't care how much it cost or when it's done but would like to drive it to the OU-OSU game at the end of November. Maybe they'll get 'er done, but I can't see it happening. Maybe he means 2012.

Damn, no wonder they're expensive, they have a fancy shop with a brick exterior. Only you Shoal Creek hipsters can afford that stuff.

Lee,

Looking good man, but the more pictures you post the better I feel about going the Aqualu route on mine :flipoff2:

Kelly,

Speaking of tubs it looks like I'm going to need your PU and some manpower to get this bad-boy transferred to my backyard.

I'm loosing my storage in the next few weeks :frown:

Guess I'll have to continue the next chapter in the Sill Wars!

Tucker

Hey just let me know when you want to grab it. I have traveling some but that is behind for now.

Why spend all that money and not make it LHD while you're at it? Color is cool though -

Tucker

No idea. For some reason they neglected to ask my opinion. Maybe the owner is an Aussie?

Here is drivers seat's outside rail redo. Only the inside rail to go and the seats mounts will be done. These have been a PTA with all the nooks and crannies. Also have to move the seat on the rail and clean - shoot again to make sure you don't have a rusted section on the ends.

Kelly, is that plain old Rustoleum rattle can black, or something more exotic? I'm about to clean and paint my seat brackets and want to copy your excellent workmanship. ;)

Lee it's plain ole Rustoleum. If I had it to do over I would have taken everything apart and dropped it off to have it blasted and powder coated. I had this done with some jump seats I found on Craigslist and they are fantastic. Better quality and most likely a long lasting finish.

Thanks. I'd prefer to powder coat everything. Unfortunately the rebuild budget has been destroyed by unexpected sheet metal replacement, and buying new running boards. Sanding and Rustoleum will have to do for now. At least the seat brackets and rails aren't that visible. I hope my results look as good as yours.

Were your jump seats missing, before the Craigslist find?

Yep Ole Yeller never had them. I should have pillaged them from my 76 years ago before I sold it but spaced. I really never should have sold the 76 at all, never sell a 40 should be the rule.

I feel your pain. I sold my '75 over 20 years ago for reasons I can't even remember. One of my all time bonehead moves.

No progress pics. The old rustbucket is scheduled for paint on Monday, provided the new fender and running boards arrive this week. Then another week or so for reassembly. At least that's the plan as of today.

That must have been back in your Frat Daddy football player phase. :)
