Here is mine, just waiting for the cash to buy a winch.

If you are a winch owner it pays to rewind your cable neatly and tightly to keep from pinching your cable. If you do a sloppy job on the next pull you will likely have the cable dig into the next layer of cable and get stuck. This causes bad damage to the cable and weakens the overall cable. I have been accused of not using my winch. I prove it by pulling off my fairlead cover to expose a very used and scared roller fairlead. I always rewind neatly with some tension on the cable.

How come on 75% of the photos with winches....the cables have never been pulled out? :) LOL Too bad for the kangaroo!!

Twisty

I like what you made, the style/shape! Do the D ring/snatch strap mounts go through the bumper directly to the frame?

Don

Cheers Don, and yeah, the recovery point goes through the bumper and forms the inside plate of the chassis mounts.

Thought I posted this but I guess not.

I plan on shimming the top and bolting it on bottom until I get around to making another one for the 40. Lot of other stuff to do first :)

oddball

This is sort of an oddball- it is an Equipe 4X4 bumper made for a Defender 90, the mounting points are easy to adapt to a FJ40 though. I suspect any other Defender 90 bumper would adapt easily. It is on one of my brother's FJ-40s, He just removed the stock bumper which was toast and fitted the Equipe bumper to the chassis. If we were to do it again I think we'd shorten the chassis a bit to make the bumper closer to the front so as to not stick out so far. For a quick fix though it worked pretty well .
