Custom front bumper

I got this custom bumper off E-bay a couple of years ago. It is extreemy well built and heavy duty. A shop made a couple of them to sell. I have yet to mount off road light on it but plan to. I also want to mount the Metal Tech front nose guard for additional protection.

FJ 40 Bumper

SOR HD bumper painted stainless steel. Not the strongest, it's only 3/16" steel, but much stronger than OEM and it was only $72 bucks.

Number of nice bumpers here.

Keep in mind state regs on bumpers in regards to size and shape. I made a front out of a chunk of 2x4x.25". Apparently this state (WA) requires bumpers to be taller than 4" and the entire width of the vehicle:rolleyes: Last I'd heard the forest service was severely harassing wheelers at an ORV park called evans creek in regards to bumper height and width:eek: Not sure why they were, cause its an OFF ROAD VEHICLE park and isn't on state land.:hhmm:

Also, when i had a roller fairlead mounted right to the front of the bumper (a few years ago) I noticed that it kept losing arguments with rocks, stumps, dirt ledges, etc. The hawse fairlead was invincible.

One last thing...attachment points for pull straps or winching points need to be better anchored than most that I see. A thick chunk of 3x2 plate just welded directly to the front of the bumper is NOT adequate. I've seen those become dangerous projectiles as a result of a good yank on a strap. (Ive also personally straightened out tow hooks with my rope). I used two pieces of 3"x3"x7/16" angle iron back to back so I had about 18" of weld to hold them to the bumper which is .25 wall.

here's mine ...

so much good stuff here, the water/bumper was sweet. the guy hung up looking straight down was great too.

Mine is awesome. Been serving its purpose for 8 years now. Actually surprised I haven't been pulled over and that a proper front bumper isn't a requirement for an out of province inspection. Feel free to steal this design idea for your own rig! :p :hillbilly:

A real bumper is in the works. I'll submit pics eventually if you're lucky.

Here are some of his bumpers. He's a Blackhawk Instructor Pilot in the Army and may be 'over there' right now. Try and PM him.

Just to Clear things up, this bumper was built by me(the Hovis Fabrication Line). Hawkdriver and I were building similar bumpers around the same time period. I do not have anymore available and do not plan too anytime in the near future.

Here they are....

tire and suspension

Sorry to hijack. But I think the stance on the red 40 above is perfect. Anyone know the lift and tire combo?

This bumper came on my cruiser before I restored it. Heavy duty, I just added the hole for the winch, the winch mount plate, and the two shackle tabs. The winch is now on, but I don't yet have a photo.

Considering building something new for my 45. Heres the old one I had on it:

I liked it because I made it with the stock curves and wasnt just a piece of channel or box tube cut at an angle (no offense to those tube and channel guys) and it was galvanized. My buddy took out a jetta with it though

and now its got a little tweak to it so Im thinking of streamlining it a little. Still stock curves on the ends and recovery points, ends tapered, boxed, a tad narrower, maybe moved back as far as possible.
