I'm in the don't want to know category, though I could add it all up if I really wanted to.

we don't have kids, we raise trucks

What a cool thread he began years ago and here we are a new generation of 80 enthusiasts! I picked up my locked LX 450 for a mere 3300. It does have 270,000 miles on the clock however. I spent a little bit upgrading, and just getting a base line completed. I just had the front Burfield joints and new axles installed. New rotors and pads as well ( OEM). On my list is a lift, sliders, front and rear bumpers and then roof rack. We could also use a refreshing paint on some of the panels, as well as painting the roof white. Here in Arizona gets pretty damn hot. I think this may help.

Here's your cost of ownership.

I've been 80-less for 3 years, so I thought this was great to quote how much gas is down since I was driving one. Gas is $2.50 in my region now.

In regards to cost of ownership, my 80 was much cheaper in maintenance once you start replacing worn out IFS components like steering rack on 100. I've also learned, like others here, that there's nothing like driving an 80. I'm not sure when, but I'll have another 80 to start rebuilding with plans to keep forever.

Crap, I bought an Avocado! I should have read this first :P

A bump for the sage old wise one's words of wisdom.

As people come in and out of the Land Cruiser world, I refer many to this thread, specifically post #1 where it is all laid out--quite specifically--for folks to understand.
"As people come in and out of the Land Cruiser world" ..........
Who in their right mind would leave the Land Cruiser world?

I bought my triple locked 95 for about 5 grand and have put another 5 or so into it, mostly in maintenance but added a few toys too.

Best motor vehicle I have ever owned, bar none. Till death do us part!

In the old days when I was young and stupid and owned a Triumph, it drove me nuts when I had to constantly spend money to keep it running and road worthy. Now that I am older and hopefully a little less stupid, I don't seem to mind spending money on my Cruisers. I just see it as a noble venture.

Don't forget that sitting in the left seat probably has a lot to do with it!

Considering I was a mechanical dufus back in the day and I'm still a mechanical dufus today, sitting in any of the 3 front seats has made a big difference in my attitude.

Definitely should buy more than one if you can. Expensive but damn worth each and every one of them.

Wisdom for the ages. Many of these trucks are likely to be around longer than many of us. They'll never be "cheap" but will always deliver satisfaction if maintained. I did a few things initially, but have done nothing else but oil changes in 5.5 years of service. Truck doesn't get many miles, as there's no commute. Spent a whole $101 on a new Interstate battery the other day, but I can;t think of the last time I spent that much on it at once. Fix 'em up and they are a good investment in what they do...especially with gas hovering around $2/gallon locally.:D

Since I got my 80 3years ago, I had three friends that had bought their LC because they were jealous of me. One sold his '12 Camaro for a 100, one sold his Beemer for a 100, and another one bought an 80. Before they bought them I told them to read through this forum and get an idea on how much addiction there is into. The 100series guys have the resources so they started pouring money on it and the guy that bought an 80 is taking it slowly. He is getting all of the parts i've removed since i've upgraded.

I am no gear head, my skills are limited when it comes to wrenching. It is my uncle who (owns a 60 and a few Willy's) that helps keep me sane and drives me away from paying someone to work on my rig. He loves his 60 and he keeps it in tack. When he's bored, he tells me to come over so he can look at my 80 and find something to work on... LoL...

I always tell my wife that my truck is so reliable, and yet, she would ask me why am I always working on it and spending money! I just tell her, it's a Cruiser thing, you wouldn't undersrstand and don't worry about it...

Thanks to Beno and CDan, amongst other mudders that gives us good deals when we need parts and to all fabricators/vendors/skilled mudders that makes us spend more money.

Not even then! Wife and I have an understanding...I'm to be buried in my Landcruiser.

My wife still needs to learn to drive. If I don't get that one checked off the bucket list, the truck would be a heck of a nice coffin, although they're going to charge you for about three plots to put it in...

Otherwise, it would be the waste of a perfectly good truck. My preference, given it's inevitable would be cremation and then have HER drive it up to Engineer Pass and scatter me there. Couldn't think of a better landscape to spend eternity in.

Then she can keep the truck and do as she pleases with it. I will give her CDan's and beno's numbers, though, just in case...:rimshot:

Had dealt with both CDan and Onur very knowlegeable guys. Thanks guys!
