Hey all,

Looking for some advice on what shocks to get for the front of my 40.

I'm running a SOA with F-150 Shock towers (~12-13" travel shocks). I use my truck as a daily driver, occaisional wheeler. I probably won't get out as much this summer as I'd like to...

Any suggestions of what kind of shocks are good for my application?

Thanks

Eric

I like the Rancho RS9000 because you can dial them in right to the way you like it. I also have heard the bilstin in the 5100 seires.

just my 2cents.

THe Rancho RS9000 seems to be the gold standard for 'Cruisers.
However, I know a bunch of people that are running the Bilstein 5150s who love 'em.

I've heard that the 9000s don't make much of a difference from the 5000s, that the adjustments don't make too much of a difference.

A while ago it was suggested i go with Bilstein 5125's. I see that RS5000s go for around $40 and the Bilsteins are $75. Is there a huge difference in performance?

And whats the difference between 5100, 5125, 5150, etc?

I've run Bilstein's since day one so I don't really have a basis for comparison, but I really like the on road stiffness that the Billy's give. I used to regularly drive at highway speeds in my SOA and never felt uncomfortable at 70+ mph. They still flex nicely on the trails where it is needed but keep the daily driving comfortable.

Woody and several of the guys have run Doetsch Tech 8000's. Seem to be pretty happy with them all around but not as expensive as the Bilsteins... From my search on 'Mud, it seems like the consensus is go with Bilsteins if you can drop the dough.... Lot's on this subject if you search btw...

Yeah sorry, i just ran another search and found some more stuff...guess i wasn't patient enough the first time.

No worries... I'm not a search nazi...:D

I just put Doetsch DT 8000 Prerunners shocks with 4 inch Downey lift - unfortunately i was only able to drive it a little bit around the block but it was an improvement over KYB i had on before.
Jim from Downey recommended either them or Bilsteins 5100 series and since Doetsch shocks are around $40 it was an easy choice for me.
Good luck with your search.

I like my Bilsteins - they're made in Germany :grinpimp:
