Gotta really look at shipping here. It is very expensive. For example, FedEx to Pakistan is cheaper than to Panama or the likes. So, even a typical crate (bulk) ship will not be cheap....plus customs. Full Floor cost to Pakistan for the Floors was about the same regardless of which way I went (around $600.00). Discounted I got it way down from that. It is always the high wall of international trade. To make it near count it would have to be a bulk ship crated slow boat.

container from Panama

Marshall might be able to help with this; I believe he has access to containers coming from Asia.......via the Panama Canal; might be an option:hhmm:

I've got just about every shipping option covered. Containers (I have my own broker) Then I have good discounts with UPS worldwide. We could always do partial containers.

I wouldn't worry about shipping as I would finding someone to make the parts we want within reason.

I talked with Paul a little more this weekend. He really just wants to make the whole rear quarter panels. From the door back and bottom of the window down. He hates patch panels. He said he wouldn't know cost until he made one.

So what should we do?

Is there someone who needs or wants this panel in our group right now? If so they can get a figure from Paul and have it made up (shipping a "one off" will be steep though). To be cost effective though we'd want a quantity and to make shipping a little more reasonable, a variety of parts.

Did he offer an idea on steel fenders or parts like that which many of us could probably use?

Has he given any idea as to what gauge sheet he'll be using? I'd like to stay as close to stock as possible but stock is fairly heavy gauge.

FYI Ehsan made a set of steel front fenders for a Pig some time ago. I don't think he ever had a Pig to make any final adjustments too so he never sold any.

News to me on the FJ55 fenders! Did he make both upper and lower fenders with all the reinforcing and captured nuts?

I'm going through a similar thing with Eshan right now on FJ45LV rear quarters. He made up a prototype set about a year or so ago. We couldn't get a group buy going then for only 10 sets. He's agreed to do it for only 4 sets and of course I'm stuck on selling set #4! I'm only doing this on a "Paid Up" basis so we need that next set sold to proceed (set's 1 through 3 are paid up already or checks on the way).

Ehsan's very nice front pig fenders were on pirate several years ago; don't know about captured nuts though......when I contacted him in the past there just was not a lot of interest but then FWIW
believe he got burned with the front fender patch panels.
In the ideal world; Paul's view on rear quarters and disliking patch panels are the way to go BUT the entire rear quarter is going to be heavy and unless is is made very economically is going to be at this time IMO very expensive..........Marshall, is Paul talking from the rear door opening beneath the rear quarter window to the rear corner to tailgate wrap around?...that is a lot of sheet metal:hhmm:

I believe that is what Paul want's to make. Basically what Toyota whould have sold you if you bought from them. If I were doing it I think that's what I'd prefer anyways. Less chance of warped sheet metal when welding in the replacement panel.

As far as making up sheet metal it would not be Eshan getting burned as the way I figure we need to do it is has a paid up quantity and then simply order the lot and pay for it all. PPG members get theirs and the rest go to whoever the lucky vendor is!

Charles; believe you had the opportunity to check out the original spot welds on the rear quarter; is this what you are thinking?........the entire section?; might be overkill for most of us; basically mine is in fairly decent shape but will be glad to contribute to the cause if it helps get things going......think there might be more need for front fenders......fiberglass is available but just don't like it at all:hhmm:.
Any further thoughts on floor boards and the underlying supports?; IMO this is where pigs die;
:hhmm:re: floorboards; what would be an acceptable price for a front floor board patches?; 2 pieces; DS & PS......only for the bead rolled area; not from the floor break up towards the firewall;

Yup - were on Pirate a few years ago. I believe Ehsan couldn't finish the fab work until he bought a good set to use as a template and that was too expensive when compared to the interest.

I agree that the entire side is possibly overkill but it would make for a far cleaner repair as the chance of warping the sheetmetal due to welding in the patch is quite high when compared to simply drilling out spot welds and replacing the entire panel. I did patch panels on my truck as I had nothing else at the time but the entire side would be MUCH cleaner.

I agree on the front fenders though. Bigger market there. I'd have bought a set had I known they may have been available around the time I did my resto. Would have been nicer than patch panels.

Really like what you guys are doing here. I'm almost done with my mechanical work and getting ready to work on the body. I'm definitely interested in throwing some dough into the PPG to mobilize our efforts (provided we get some useful parts of course). For my pig, I need some help on the rear quarters, inner rockers, front fenders, and passenger-side floor. Big surprise huh! I can't weld at this time and finding someone to to custom fab work in Charleston has proved difficult. So the idea of having pre-made panels to replace the rot rather than fabbing in a solution or custom patch sounds like a good idea.

I'm hoping to be able to go visit Paul in Panama over "Semana Santa" (week before Easter) to get some LV parts I'm going to have him make up. Should I discuss the possibility of '55 parts? I could even take the '55 with me in case he needs to see something.

Charles; awesome if you can get Lomussas to fab up some sheetmetal:bounce:......but:hhmm:I thought that Paul had or had access to an fj55 from prior threads;

He likely does. Mine however also has the PTO frame extentions which I'd bet he doesn't have access to if there is interest in those.

If folks are interested and willing to put up cash, post up.

Charles, I'm thinking front lower fenders. Paul
