Don't think I have seen 4Runner seats done yet... Please document. The ones I have sat in were not bad at all and seeing as my drivers side is now starting to show the metal sub-frame on the bolster I am going to have to get SOMETHING done soon.

Here are some 4runner seats that i will be installing in my 60,paid less than $100 for both and in great shape. It has lumbar adj. head rest tilt and side bolster adj. as well fits snug once your in it.:)

huge mods involved on the brackets to make 'em work .?

The decision to stay stock or not is mostly dependent on personal preference. For me, the condition of the truck makes a difference. A truck that's already been heavily modified or badly tattered is much easier to continue changing. The BMW seats seem to fit the existing style better than the other options I've seen. They are thinner and don't look like overfluffed Lazy Boys.

Function matters too. For some, comfort is everything; soft, heated, electric trim.

A few months back a Mudder put PT Cruiser seats in his 60. They didn't look bad. (If you can get over putting PT parts in your Cruiser.) ;p

These are the $OR cushions under original fabric.

They comfortable?

jpeg....great looking 62!
I have a red one just like yours and have been searching for a good interior replacement option.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Sounds like your happy with the SOR foam + leatheresque?
Did you install yourself, if so, how difficult?

Thanks!

Im going to do the pt cruiser seats. Found a set for next to nothing from this guy who buys junk cars and parts them out. Drivers seat has the fold down arm rest and passenger seat tumbles forward completely flat.......now just to get the time to get them mounted.Maybe after GSMTR.
Do you remember what year the fold down passenger seat came out of? Or do they all do that?

I installed subaru forester seats and they are way better than my old seats:steer:

I think I just scored a set of PT Cruiser leather, electric front seats for my 89. $75. And the dude is pulling them for me.

Here is the link to my build, just did this a month ago and love it. The sound deadener makes it even better. I believe all the passenger seats fold down, but there are a few years that don't have the passenger arm rest.

Nice score c130 and even better that someone else is pulling them!

I just picked up my leather PT Cruiser seats yesterday. 2001 models. Havent looked at them close yet but Driver side only has electric up and down and arm rest but both sides both have heaters. Gonna have to think how to wire those up, maybe have to use relays or just supply 12 volts. However both seats have air bags in the side bolsters. Do not put voltage to those plugs (yellow plugs I think). Might ruin the good deal we got on these seats and could possibly provide some dental work you were not looking for.

BLC, good job on snagging new seats. I haven't had tome to put mine in yet. I'm on assignment next week so it will probably be the week before Halloween. Your passenger seat might fold all the way down too. that was an added bonus with mine. I got black leather but I got a hell of a deal on them. Originally it was $75. But the guy took a while to pull them when I got there and gave me another $15 off. So I got leather, electric with seat heaters for that price. I can live with it. Yeah I hear what you're saying about the airbags. I was a little nervous about that at first but as long as you do not put any power to them you should be alright. I think someone else on here has wired up the electric options. I'll have to search and find it. I've read about twenty posts on changing out the seats.

C130FE...thanks for your feedback. I cleaned my new seats yesterday to get all the Arizona junk yard dust off of them and they look pretty darn good. A little gray leather shoe polish will fill in the leather creases and then they will look almost brand new. My seats have some sort of control box under each one, I am not sure what those do, hopefully those are heater relays but they probably part of airbag sensors and deployment. I have looked on the PT Cruiser chat rooms for wiring info but those forums are nowhere near in depth or as good as MUD. Mildot did a great write up on his install but does not mention how his heaters and/or height motor got wired. They guys over on the PT Cruiser forums have no idea that write ups as good as Mildot's or the many others on Mud can be done. Yes, my passenger seat will fold down flat and has no armrest.

Good looking 62 BTW

Sorry for the delayed response. After I installed the seats the height was great if not slightly too high so I only temporarily connected the height adjustment to see but found no need for me (6'2") or my wife (5') to adjust the see higher so I simply zip tied the wires to the seat.

I did not have heaters in my set so I can not speak to that.

When I installed I found the wiring diagram for the seats and if I remember correctly the air bag was the yellow connector. I made sure to leave that alone and zip tied it up as well.

Thanks Mildot......if you ever run into that wiring diagram I would be interested in the file or a link.

I'm a huge proponent of the 4Runner and pickup seats, specifically the 1st gen SR5 seats. They're the most supportive and comfortable Toyota seats I've ever sat in. I'd bet that they're more comfortable, and certainly more supportive, than many of the seats I've seen retrofitted. I've got a set out of a truck that had the 22RE-T, so it even says turbo to match my motor :D

They're manual and adjustable in more ways than I would ever use, including adjustable lumbar support!!! I've got mine on a wagon gear seat box, but these would be an easy retrofit for the factory mounts as well. Picked them up for $100.

Pic overload incoming. Everything should be self-explanatory.

Factory brackets, then brackets removed, then with my custom brackets made:
