Glws the sale JP, wish I had the dough! Pretty ironic how the best 45 swb resto doesn’t bid past 37k and junk from Costa Rica sells for more??. Very confused with the current market, a dealership should snap this up and put it in there show room! Maybe what holds it back is the need for a temp controlled garage and some bubble wrap!! It’s tooo nice! 60k is a great price, don’t settle for less..

Thanks Whitey! The auction was definitely a head scratchier, my cost alone on the build were pushing 40k not including a 1,000 hours of my labor 😕. At this point I just hope it finds a good home with a true enthusiast that appreciates what it is.

I was very surprised to see that one

I wish I had the money for this one too! I was surprised it didn’t get bid up as well on BAT, but if any 45 deserves to sell for 60 it’s this one! GLWTS!

Looking at the BaT Auction - I think the lead photos were nowhere near as good as some of the others they had to choose from. I just sold a 1960 FJ25L that was on par with FJCo and other high end resto's and it went for a paltry $34500 to the new owner. That was a steal! You just don't make any money building these trucks it would seem.

I think you’re right on the photos Greg, I felt the same. I watched your auction yesterday, it had me feeling anxious about mine. I agree that the market on these type restorations seems limited.

This by far one of the best Pickups i have seen. You also have great taste and touch.

Thanks Edmond. I really appreciated it! I tried my best to do a restoration that honored these rare birds like they deserve!

I think it’s a niche market, how many of us can shell out 60 to 100k for a rig that can’t be used. Not many, and those with the money don’t know the history and how special these trucks are. I think when money is no object it takes all the fun out of owning and enjoying toys like these. Most don’t know about the small details, plated original hardware, correct knobs detailed to perfection, the restored d40, correct coral seats, red seat belts, etc... I bet the majority of bidders or interested parties, thought why did they use coral seats and red seat belts! It will find the right buyer, just need to be patient!

Gorgeous build. And I’m in SC with my stable of other LCs up the road in Cedar Mountain, NC. Building a garage to hold them. This would be sweet!

Thanks SandCruiser! I love Cedar Mountain, I got married at Pretty Place aka Camp Greenville.

If someone wants a total oem restoration, I can't think of a better place for an owner to come than @ClemsonCruiser's Preservation Land Cruisers. Who needs the FJ Co? Keep it all right here in the USA with someone who has a passion and ability to "preserve" these Land Cruisers. Plus their builds cost tens of thousands of dollars more. While i love this truck, and in concert with what others have said about cost, I like the idea of your patina builds as the best bang for the buck. Any idea on what you had in the parts/labor on "barn find" or "survivor"? Would think a lot of people may have interest in a pretty thorough preservation over a restoration. If you do not wish for the that to be public knowledge, please pm me. I love your work and would like to start budgeting for such a preservation project.

Preservation is clean up the existing cosmetics( no repaint) and do all the mechanical to make a daily driver/ work truck that can be enjoyed. Could you imagine the first big scratch on this resto! I did a full resto on my first 45 20 years ago and rolled it on its side a year later( 15k in paint and body back then!!) It turned out to be a positive, because Now I could really use the truck and wheel it all over California. I will never do another resto, I just enjoy using these rigs too much. I do however appreciate what JP has done. I would love to see this in a Toyota dealership show room, so I could go sit in it and pretend it was glorious 1965 all over again!

In my opinion, restoration is exactly what JP did to this truck. If you look at his signature line, you will see a 40 and a 45 that he "brought back to life". Preservation means different things to different people but i would say a preservation is to get a vehicle back to a safe, reliable driving condition while leaving some of the bumps and bruises, rust and other things that show the life of the truck.

I should add, that make no mistake about it, if i could afford this truck i would have already paid for it. No need to make a visit to see the actual condition. JP has documented his rigs and his attention to detail is spot on. It is as close to perfect as i think you can make a 55 year old truck.(minus the bedliner). I can't exactly say what is concours perfect but i have heard on some concours restorations, they even make sure the screws all line up. I am pretty sure that this 45 did not come from the factory like that and i am pretty sure there arn't many other 45's that exist that are this nice other than maybe his other 45 he restored.

Agreed, these are the best I have ever seen. Too many trucks over the years miss all the little details, have seen pretty nice resto’s only to lift the hood and see a Weber and headers?
