Thanks Lee, even though my Dad is still with me I get it. I find my self saying little sayings that he says and some of my coworkers look at me funny because they don't understand his generation or the terminology...but I do. Its the little things about our Dads that sometimes leave the biggest impression. Have a great Fathers Day everyone!

Thank you Lee, very thoughtfully, cheers

Thank you Commander!

The timing in this thread can sometimes be amazing. My dad drove up here from Colorado last weekend. First time we've done things together like this in 10 years. We drove over Beartooth Pass, through Yellowstone National Park, and camped for the weekend. We took my LandCruiser and revisited the sites in this area (Red Lodge, MT) that prompted both of us to relocate ourselves from Dallas, TX into mountain towns. In a lot of ways, this visit was a full-circle update of something we both started nearly two decades ago. At this point, I'm seriously considering seeking long term employment near him in Salida, CO after law school.

Happy Fathers Day to all!

Lee, I didn't get to read your Father's Day story until today. Your comment yesterday about the Liquid Wrench in my garage now makes sense. Great story!

I was lucky to have spent all day Sunday (Father's Day) with my mom and dad in Kemah, just south of Houston. We had a great time walking around, eating seafood, and just talking about everything. Thank you for reminding us to just slow down and enjoy being around the ones we love and remembering the ones that have moved on.

This thread has made the hours I've spent here all worthwhile...

...and I've only gotten up to post #44, where I discovered there WAS a pic of the Zinger girls posted! Is it posted elsewhere? How can I get that imaginary image out of my mind?

I read post #22, introducing the Zinger girls, with my jaw agape. That's something that only happens in a movie, where everything's fantasy ANYWAY. Did Sea Knight discreetly cruise the Zinger parking lot periodically afterward to get an old-man 2nd-try glimpse?

thank you commander for another awesome chapter. hooray for more moose drool, became a ritual while reading this, love that stuff. happy fathers day to all of you dads out there. looking forward too the long road ahead of us.

Great story, Dr. got me off Beer, so I only get 1-2 a week... but Damn is Moose Drool good....

I helped work on the Butte memorial. A lot of history here in Montana. I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Thanks for the stories

Just read your Fathers Day story. Very nice Lee! Enjoying the read BTW.

It's not a 40, but Moose Drool on a Cruiser seemed appropriate.

Thanks so much !

Well Commander -

I am a much better reader than contributor, but in the last week this thread has woken me from a miserable few years. My 40 has been 'garaged' for almost 5 years - through several moves, a separation and then divorce and although it has my love, its needed my attention, badly. My visits to MUD were rare at best. Not even sure why I found this thread - but for some reason I did.

This weekend after finally catching up to you in Montana, I went to give my cruiser some attention. A new battery, some fresh gas and a topless trip around town and you couldn't wipe the grin off my face today.

Like so many others, your story has had its impact on me as well. I've laffed, enjoyed the pics and the people and even wiped a few tears - err, just built up pollen I'm sure - when thinking about my dad, who I lost when I was just 22.

I can't wait until the next chapter.... and whether it appears sooner or later, your storytelling is well worth the wait !

Cheers

Man. I just finally caught up on this thread. I haven't read any of it since the first of the year (new position here at work and my daughter who's now 1yr and 5 mos keeping me busy). Great story and really makes me want to hit the road.

All the stuff about dads has really been hitting home as well. My dad and I don't talk much. We share the blame pretty evenly but he has really been making an effort over the last year or so to get back in touch. He lives near Clear Lake in N Cali, I live S of Atlanta, and my younger brother (my only other sibling) lives in NYC. We're about as far away as we can get. I've said this before, but I need to really make an effort to be more in touch. Especially now that my daughter is here. He always wants to know about her and I think he regrets not being in touch for so many years. Maybe a cross country road trip in a Cruiser to see him would be just the fix. I could never tell a story this good about it, or have such an amazing and sometimes unbelievable series of events happen to me but it would be fun.

I know it's been said many times but thanks for sharing the story with us. It's a great read and I think it really touches everyone in some way or another. It has some of us thinking of our dads, trips we took, or wish we had taken, sweet memories and some bitter ones. This is truly the best thread on MUD.

Edit: Oh, I almost forgot all the great tech content.
