That sucks . From the spray looks like a rear output shaft seal. if so at least it's an easy fix .

I just quick glanced up there. Looks like it's coming from further forward.

But, hard to tell without crawling under there

That sucks The spray comes from when it gets on the yoke when you move it slings off. Check the drain plug gasket too . Ive had a few sumo kit drain plug gaskets not seal after some miles . If Dj did it make sure it's tight:rofl:. (Jk Dj) . I put oem gaskets on no more leaks . Hope its something simple cause it's leaking pretty good

I think..... (there he goes thinking again), the pattern is from coming off the skid plate.

I'll put eyes on it. If it's anything more than a gasket or something that needs do be tightened, it's just gonna leak and I'll keep tabs on it.

I’m bringing Pigmat.
I have a Cummins.

Headed to Cruiser Outfitters tomorrow morning for a fresh clutch and a reseal between the transmission and transfer. I've had a gear oil migration from the transmission to the transfer for a long time and I'm tired of monitoring it to keep from wiping out the transmission. The truck is 37 years old but it only has 102,000 miles on it.

Thank you!
I've had it for almost 12 years. It was a bit rough around the edges when I got it but it was rust-free. Here is the thread where all that got taken care of.

Since then it has traveled just over 16,000 miles. A bit over 100 miles a month. It's a hoot to drive. It is NOT an 80 at all. An 80 basically drives its self. They make anybody look good off road. This one is capable but you have to know how to make it do the job.

Think of a 1960s 35mm camera compared to a 2025 digital SLR. one is point and shoot for a perfect exposure every frame. The other can take wonderful photos but only if you know EXACTLY what to tell it to do.

Looks like either the idler shaft, or the tail housing.

I drove 300 miles at 70mph the other day. My money is on everything got warm and got bitchy. Not much of a puddle today, so it's either empty or it was just built up on the skid plate.

Or both. lol

80 Series standard steel wheel. 42601-60362. Any Toyota dealer can get them. 16x8 with 4.5 inches of backspace. On a 7x you need to run spacers.

Looks like typical itchy butt drag

I run synthetic everywhere in the driveline, that tends to challenge gaskets and seals much more than other options. It is noticeably quieter running synthetic in the transfer case though. I didn't notice much difference in the tranny for noise.

Spraying the inside and outside of the tub with bedliner did the most to attenuate the noise. A split case just isn't a quiet transfer case. They aren't as noisy as a lot of others, but....

no donkeys or horses last year or this year. The area will be future tent sites.
If anyone is missing them, check out the Gunnison KOA. We stayed there en-route last year. They had little donkeys and goats just roaming the campground. The kids loved it. Kinda funny to get up and see donkeys just milling around and goats standing on picnic tables.

That sucks. That O ring can be a bitch to install easy to tear on install . I saw you said you run synthetics. I never run synthetics Because it tends to leak no matter how good the seal . I see Proffitts mark on the drain plug They never used synthetics when I worked there . If you had them put that in . I would drain and fill with reg old 80/90 see if the leaks goes away.

How's the fit on a 6x series?
Also needs spacers. Stock backspace on 4x, 55, 6x, 7x is 3.5 inches. I run Spidertrax 1.5 inch spacers on the 74. I have not found quality 1 or 1 1/4 inch spacers.

Yeah, JP pushed back on the running synthetic. Which I understand, it's asking for a leak.

Tranny looks nice and dry on the outside, so that's a win.
