Telly needs cash?! That has to be one of the biggest oxymorons ever…. :) I love Telluride but they are sitting pretty so there must be some other reason beyond finances that is holding this back. Maybe Tom Cruise or Oprah didn’t pay their tax bill?
Exactly what I was thinking 😂

Maybe Tom Cruise or Oprah didn’t pay their tax bill? Is the damage above or below the Idorado drifts that exit on to the Tomboy Road? If it’s below, maybe they are hoping Idorado/Feds will chip in so mitigation work can continue?

Joking aside, hoping this gets sorted for all as this impacts a lot of local businesses.
Telluride is not the rich town that many folks think that it is. The resort is owned by Telski, not the town. Last I heard, Telluride had $9 million in their general fund and I’d imagine that their budget is $8.5 million or more, and I doubt that fixing the Tomboy road was in the 2025 budget. I bet that they will find cash as the local backcountry guides will have a big incentive to pitch in. We will all have fun either way. I am looking forward to getting back and checking in with a few folks, and meeting you all.

Don’t quote me on those numbers. I just know that those mountain towns operate on thin margins.

Back to SAS stuff.

Hey and yo SAS friends.

I’ve found myself with my son in my FJ62 in Durango with a full camp set up. We are on a roadtrip throughout NM and wandered up to my cousins.

Question is: what pass or roads to run in the area? What’s clear?

Thanks in advance…

As far as I have seen from the Ouray side, all except for Imogene Pass and Richmond Basin have been cleared.

Here is a link to the most updated list that I know of. Links to the other counties are listed in this post though I have found that those counties are not as good at providing the most current updates.

Here are a few other non-government sources that you may be aware of, @RevISK, and may be helpful for others, too. These resources crowdsource status updates from various sources. CORE (the first two links) sends their own people out to explore road conditions, as well as work to keep our roads open.

I e used this website in the past as it has lots of information in one spot:

Little less Travelled, look in to Kennebec Pass a little West of Durango. Really beautiful (sorry could not find my pics).

Awesome, thanks @Mike Shull and @DrRock.

I’ve got GAIA and COTREX as well as the Funtrex Guidebook. My niece will be in tow in her gen 2 four runner so we will probably keep it somewhat light.

Appreciate the input.

Ian

Great, thanks! We were looking at Jersey Jim, but I think that’s basically just a drive? Sounds like a sandwich that would give you gas.
I’ll definitely look into Kennebec though.

Need to make a decision and hit the store/road by 11.

GAIA is like OnX kinda.
Just a powerful gps app that shows off-road trails etc…
It’s just for no signal guidance.
The resources you guys are sharing are what I was looking for as well as any recommendations or recent personal experience.

Animas Forks is a nice destination if this is your first time in the area.
I’ve been up/through there a handful of times but never camped. I lived in the area many many years ago but I was a broke ass ranch hand living in a tent outside of town.

I’ve done several of the passes throughout the years but just don’t remember them all. Many done inadvertently (just exploring in my stock tundra before the rule was you had to over build and OverLand) and a few on purpose in my 40.

Doing them inadvertently is sometimes the best way! I did a lot of my exploration early on via motorcycle and would just go where the wind took me and packed a spare gallon of gas just in case. Enjoy!

This is literally us without the motorcycle and adding a few gallons of gas.

BTW, I zoomed in to see that sweet two-tone paint and I noticed your stunned son in the background. That will be a great photo to look back on in 40 years. Ha.

You can show him these two embarrassing pictures. I am guessing that this was a diaper change stop and I don’t look very happy to go back into that Land Cruiser. On top of that, where the heck did we all sit? Ha. That is the same Cruiser that I am bringing to Ouray in 5 months weeks, minus the bottle…or maybe I’ll need the bottle by then.

Wait a second, the trailers are different. These were two different trips. The first one might be Rio Honda. The second one is most likely at Hermit Peak between Creede and Lake City.

That generational cruiser thing you got going is pretty cool.
I wonder how many on here have their ‘family heirloom’?
