We have some exciting news for this years Texas Convoy. As usual we will be heading over Raton Pass on I-25 as we enter Colorado. Trinidad is a good place to grab lunch, fuel and supplies for camp on Saturday night. This year however, we have been invited to stop at Phil Long Toyota in the downtown district. They will clear most of their lot and provide some Burgers and such for the group. They have reached out to us and realized what a cool thing we do and recognize the haritage of our Cruisers. This is a first and a big shout out to @CaptClose for putting the bug in their ear for us.
So grub on the road and a cool location. Much better than the Wal-Mart parking lot I'd say.

Rad!

So are y’all still planning to stop in Alamosa before heading up the hill to Creede?

That is correct, the Phil Long Toyota meet will be earlier. Shooting somewhere between 11am and 1pm on Saturday the 3rd at the dealership in Trinidad. There will be multiple stops for fuel along the way. Alamosa is 100% the spot for those of us doing the HWY 149 route up towards Creed.
City Market has a big parking lot, Gasoline, Groceries and most importantly a good selection of Adult Beverages for that evening.

I'm trying to do the calculus and trigonometry on how/when I can connect Saturday. it will be later like 7 pm +. I might need someone to text where you end up camping and a backup start time on Sunday before cell service drops so I know where you go.

Still trying to decide to say eff'it and drive the 40 with brother-in-law or tow it and he drops me off and goes around.

If anyone has a carb insulator/heat shield that they are willing to part with and bring along I’m looking for one…

I’ll be joining the convoy in Alamosa.

Also, if anyone wants spend a day or two near Angel Fire, NM on the backside of this trip, I’ve got land in the mountains that I’m camping on all summer. Good fishing at a private lake too.

That sounds a lot cooler than a hotel in Amarillo or Lubbock on the drive home.

@POTATO LAUNCHER et al,

For what it is worth... I'm still not sure what Karl from MN needs for a place to flop on the way to SAS Friday night. Be that as it may, I decided to drive the 40 vs tow. Will be leaving the eastern side of NE (Iowa side) 6 am or so Sat. Not sure I will be able to make it where you camp. Think I can make it to Alamosa, CO (my butt is not made of iron) - that is 11 hours without stopping for gas.

Thought is, grab lodging in Alamosa, and then get up early Sunday and meet you all at camp before you head out over the passes.

I would just need to know what time you think you break camp and where you decided to stay.

Really looking forward to meeting you all.

@thatcabledude - got the fender out to bring for ya'

There are multiple Hotels in Alamosa and Monte Vista. We usually stay at the Best Western Movie Manor in Monte Vista.
Will know better on the time once we get there on Saturday.
